    Upgrade to 1703 now has defender icon in notification area


    I have just done an upgrade from 1607 to 1703.

    Now in the notification area I have a Defender icon with an exclamation mark warning me that SmartScreen is turned off.

    I have no intention of switching SmartScreen on and I don't even use Defender, I use Avast AntiVirus. So how do I get rid of this Defender icon. I tried reinstalling Avast but that didn't get rid on that Defender nonsense.

    Thank you for the link.
    The first option was not appropriate for me as I deliberately choose to show all icons; I don't like something being active yet hidden.
    The second option however worked perfectly, thanks again.

    You should turn Defender off if you use Avast. Turn On or Off Windows Defender in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Security System Tutorials
