Win 10 Creators Update keeps killing my HP OJ6500 drivers/software

Never an issue before with this aging printer, I keep getting a message under "Device Performance and Health" that a new driver is recommended. After a few days, the printer will fail. I have the most updated driver/software for the printer - v14.8.0. I will remove and reinstall the driver/software, but without fail after a few restarts, the issue will recurr. HP support is of no help.

    Any ideas??

    Hi LarryinNJ.

Lets try telling Windows that you will handle driver updates.

    Windows + R keys
    Enter Sysdm.cpl
    Click on Hardware tab
    Click on Device Installation Settings
    Click on No
A menu appears (first time) click Never Install driver software.
You may get a warning. Click the option that says I’ll take care of it (not exact words)

    Then install your old driver.

Nope - getting the Windows Defender "One of your device drivers may not be working properly" again...

Did you open the device manager and see which device driver?

Did you confirm driver remained on older version or did it get updated?

Interesting that defender would have anything to do with drivers.

The printer shows up under other devices as not installed. Yet the device is currently working normally, but it will stop after a few days.

    Thanks.

So when you install it do you see it getting the expected driver, the older one that you are installing?

If you check your Windows Update history do you see it installing this driver?

    Does the printer still work?

Can you enter Defender and accept warning or exclude it from scan?

What happens if you disable this device, does it kill printing / faxing ?
