    Hi ttodd0450

Not really sure which process you are using to perform the upgrade. If you go to the media creator tool, down load tool and create a USB key (need 8GB) it should work. When you are ready to to the upgrade plug the USB key and run setup.

Here is the tutorial, media creation tool is step six. I like this process as it gives you bootable media for future use. There are also ISO methods.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

While the upgrade should not cause any impact to your data I would recommend that you have a copy of all personal data. (Backup).

Please run the Update Trouble Shooting tool.
Windows key + S, search bar appears, type troubleshooting into search bar, troubleshooting appears at top. Click it, window opens, lower right side "Fix problems with Windows Update", click. Window opens, click on “advance”, click on Run as administrator, click “Next”. Should run clean. If not run again.
Then please use the Media creator tool and create a USB key (8GB although 4GB may work.)
You down load tool. Then invoke and it downloads Windows 10, currently it downloads Creator Update. Enter BIOS and disable secure boot.
Plug in USB key, navigate to it and double click setup. Here is link to tool.

As I said before, I recommend having your data backed up off machine.

You were given an idea in Post #2. Is there some reason you won't try it? Do not use the upgrade assistant. Do not use Windows Update. Download the ISO file with the media creation tool. Either create a USB flash drive from the ISO file, or just mount the ISO file and run setup.exe from it.

The Media Creation Tool is the "Download Tool Now" button on this webpage:
    Download Windows 10

Then when you run the MCT you want to select the option for, "Create Installation Media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC"
