How to Download Creators Update ISO via MS w/o Media Creation Tool

    UPDATED: 2017-April-15 (Tax Day)

    Three
simple methods for downloading Creators Update .ISO directly from the MS Media Creation Download page & via the HediDoc GUI utility.

    Method 1 - (browser Plug-In)

When you go to the MS Win 10 Media Creation Download utility page here: Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File) you will get the usual options to Update Now or Download The Media Creation Tool, however, no there is no apparent way to download the ISO file directly (as in w/o downloading and using that tool). You can if you install that tool and run it from within Windows (Method 3), however, if you just want the .ISO directly w/o downloading the MCT, you have 2 other choices below (methods 1 and 2). Fortunately there is an easy fix for this and I didn't see it specifically mentioned here so I thought I would share it.

All you need to do is download a small, simple plugin for your browser that will change the browsers 'ID or User Agent'. It will 'tell' MS your using another non-microsoft/Windows recognized browser so to speak and thus (after choosing which browser 'emulation' you wish to use) will present you with the option (the only one at top) to select which version of the Win10 Creators Update ISO you want to download. Simple eh?

After downloading and installing the plug-in, just click on the icon and select something. Remember MS/Windows recognizes Chrome, Firefox and Opera for Windows, so avoid those. Just click on the the Linux Icon from the list as shown in the picture below. Now; simply re-load the Media Creation Download page and go for it.

    Download Plug-In for Chrome browsers:
User-Agent Switcher for Chrome - Chrome Web Store
Download Plug-In for Firefox browsers: User-Agent Switcher :: Add-ons for Firefox
Download Plug-In for Opera browsers: User-Agent Switcher extension - Opera add-ons
MS Edge & MS Internet Explorer: Simply hit F12 and use the agent switcher from within the Developer tools. :)

After you click on a browser (I just clicked on the Linux Icon in the third or bottom row), refresh the Media Creation Download page and download your ISO.

Method 2 - (GUI Utility App)

I guess the easiest way is to download the GUI tool 'Windows ISO Downloader' via HeiDoc.net. It is a small app written by Jan Krohn and mimics the MS Media Creation Download site via a little portable (non-installing) GUI
    utility.

This tool allows an easy and comfortable way to download genuine Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 disk images (ISO) directly from Microsoft's servers, as well as Office 2007, Office 2010, Office 2013, Office 2016 (Windows) and Office 2011 for Mac.

In the past Microsoft provided disk images for many of their products through their subcontractor "Digital River". These downloads were pulled in early 2014. Afterwards, Microsoft made a limited selection of downloads available on their TechBench site. Our tool accesses that TechBench site, and unlocks a large number of hidden download files on it.

    NOTE:
This app is updated very frequently, thus be sure and visit the homepage to verify that you have the latest version. Each newer versions will include additional updated versions of Win10, Office, etc.

Simply download and run it. It's a so called 'portable' app and requires no installation. Click on the OS/App you want from the right hand side and follow the prompts. You can select 'Expert View' to enable other versions/apps as we.. Currently there is nothing that shows up when you check that box.

    Homepage: Homepage for the program
Download: Windows ISO Downloader.exe - Latest Version as of this posting.
    Version: 4.32
    Release Date: 11 April 2017
Requirements: Windows 7 or newer, .NET Framework 4.6.1 or newer, Internet Explorer 8 or newer.
Updates: Includes Windows 10 Creators Update (March/April 2017)

Method 3 - (Media Creation Tool Download)

Download Windows 10 ISO File Windows 10 Tutorials

Okay guys. I forgot about the fact that you can download that Media Creation Tool from MS, run it and choose whether to Install it right then OR (as user @Bree mentioned, create a DVD or USB installation media (.ISO) right there from within that app. Tnx @Bree for that.

So, any of the three methods above will [at the end of the day so to speak] provide you with an .ISO image itself for you to manually burn/extract or have it done for you...as in Method 3.

That's the way I did it to. After downloading I mounted it in my downloads folder and clicked on setup and all went well.

In the past I have used this tool, I havent used it in quite a while i'm not sure if it still works

It still works and is constantly updated. I only use it and not any thing else. It downloads directly from MS servers so it it 1000% safe

    Hey Guys

I am glad it's working for you guys in IE and Edge via F12. I should have mentioned that the Linux option was the only way as you guys pointed out that it worked with Apple Agent settings. Cool.

Hi Porthos. Yeah I posted that tool link a few months ago as well. That's probably the easiest way to do it as it just took the contents of that MS Media Creation Tool Download page and re-worked it a tad so it always allowed for the ISO download. I will add that to the original post to let everyone that doesn't know that there is a GUI app that allows for a 'point and click' method. Easier than easy!

    Tnx for mentioning it again.

Just wondering what the difference is between downloading the iso from Media Creation Tool, or direct using the Heidoc tool. From what I can gather is that one has install.wim and the other has install.esd but for a general user like me who originally installed Windows 10 Pro from an OEM DVD and already has creators update installed via Windows updates, which iso is best for me to download to create a dvd to put aside for safe keeping.

    Hi @ozradar.

The Media Creation Download tool will only allow you to upgrade to the latest version (at seen on the top of that page) OR it will allow you to download the tool itself and when you run that tool, it will retrieve the files needed and then install it 'on the fly or go' so to speak from within Windows. No ISO file (.ISO) will be created or downloaded.

Update: As user @Bree ;mentioned, I forgot that when you download that tool you can indeed create a bootable media (either DVD or USB). For some reason I was thinking it was only allowing you to install it right there directly. Thank you @Bree for pointing that out. I should have known better...lol.

The utility app (the HediDoc.net one) will allow you to download the .ISO image file directly from MS so you can the following:

    1. Extract the .ISO file locally (on the PC your on at that time) and then run Setup.exe from within Windows.

    2. Burn that .ISO file to DVD to use in another PC or upgrade the PC your on after re-starting it and booting from the DVD to install/upgrade Windows before you get into your current Windows install.

    3. Extract the .ISO file and then with the aid of a tool like Rufus, load those extracted files onto a USB key/drive and boot from that to install on that PC or another PC.

Basically, it just allows for a direct .ISO image file to be downloaded directly rather than creating one using other multi-step methods of creating one.

If you download and run that Media Creation Tool you will notice it doesn't give you that option to download an .ISO file by itself. It just downloads the Windows files and installs it from within Windows leaving you w/o an image.

Hope that clears a bit up.

Oops. I just noticed your other question. Which .ISO is best for me. All the options will give you the same .ISO image (some give you more version selections and others less. As @Bree mentioned, choosing the appropriate one will allow you to create one that will fit on a single DVD whereas others won't (unless you have Dual Layer DVD capability). It's just the method you choose to obtain the .ISO and/or how you create one from the files you already have (.wim/.esd) versus just downloading the .ISO directly so you don't have to do any '.wim or .esd to .ISO conversions'. It's a time saver I guess. Lol

    Tnx

Yes it does. Run the MCT and select 'Create media for another PC'. It offers you the choice of making an ISO or USB media. You also get the choice of making 32-bit media, 64-bit or both in the one ISO/USB.
