Upgrading from 8.1 to 10 procedure questions

I have a Windows 8 Disc and then I upgraded to 8.1 Can I wait for the release and then download the ISO file? My understanding is I would make a backup system image and repair disc of 8.1. Then clean install of Windows 10. After its complete create a backup USB and system image? So if my computer crashes it would restore it to 10 instead of going back to 8.1?

Thanks. Great article but didn't answer my specific questions. 10 pages and 95 posts. Post #61 came close to asking the same question.

A ISO will be provided for the final release. The wording is sketchy. Something like upgrade then activate with MS account then ISO will be available to dl and you make your own dvd or usb media.

Going forward, if I need to reinstall I would be able to use my Windows 10 backup on USB and not have to go back to 8.1 or earlier? Do I have to keep Windows 8 and earlier Discs and Keys?

Yes. Back up your Win 8 before you upgrade to 10. Yep the ISO that MS has promised to make available after you upgrade will be able to do a repair install or clean install down the road if something bad happens.

I'd keep 'em for a while. Like 10 years. (I still have a Windows 95 installation CD around somewhere.)
