Installing Windows 10 to a new Hard Disk.

A few weeks ago, I downloaded the Media Creation Tool and created a Windows 10 Recovery disk and used it to do
a clean install of my W10 upgraded installation on my desktop. It went well.

Now I find I would like to put W10 on my Win 7 Acer laptop and plan to remove the existing hdd and replace it with a new one on which I will install W10. Can I use the existing W10 Recovery disk to do that installation? Assuming I can, will I run into an activation problem because I don't have a product key? If so, how do I get a product key?

    Thank you.

Being a different PC by rights you need to buy windows 10 to get a key and for it to activate

I believe he can use his Windows 7 key during the install and it`ll activate 10.

    Others can comment on that.

On your Acer Windows 7 laptop, insert the USB flash drive you created with the Media Creation Tool (with Windows 7 running, just like you were going to copy files to or from it). Run setup.exe from it. It will upgrade your Windows 7 to Windows 10, establish the digital license for Windows 10 on Microsoft Activation servers and then you can clean install Windows 10 to that laptop later if you want.
