Check weight windows folder and see that the heavy 18.5 GB (see picture). Why was this and how can I reduce this weight of windows folder. I have 10158 build of Win 10.

It depends on how much User files you have(pictures, music, videos...etc.) and how many/how large your 3rd party programs are.

This is my C:\Windows Folder, has nothing to do with the documents, pictures, music, etc., in C:\Users. I do have File Explorer set to show all files. I began Win10TP with a clean HDD several months ago.

He is just looking at Windows, not Users area.

Mine is also 18 GB, but only 13 GB on disk.

Are installed programs are not in the folder Program Files or Program Files (x86). If the final version took up a lot of space I bag on windows 7. So the system is almost as difficult as some Blu-ray movies.

I have a related question. How do I get rid of Hiberfil.sys? I have hibernation disabled but it is still there and I can't delete it.

That number isn't what it seems. NTFS has long supported a feature where a single copy of a file file can appear in multiple folders. This feature is used extensively in the Windows folder. When Explorer goes through the Windows folder it counts the size of each of these files separately even though there is only one copy. This leads to an inflated count and size.

The determination of the disk space consumed by an individual folder in a modern file system is highly problematic and the results only an approximation. It is even more of a problem for the Windows folder. This is a lot more complicated than it appears.

Oh, I thought you just meant C: windows in general, sorry. Have you tried cleaning up your Side by Side folder(WinSxS).:

To Clean the WinSxS Folders(using DISM)
Using Deployment Image Servicing and Management

Using DISM you can configure and update Windows features, packages, drivers and so on. The /Cleanup-Image parameter of Dism.exe, will provide you with advanced options to reduce the size of the WinSxS folder, writes TechNet.

A)Using the /StartComponentCleanup parameter of Dism.exe on a running version of Windows 8.1 gives you similar results to running the StartComponentCleanup task in TaskScheduler.Open an elevated command prompt, type the following and hit Enter:
    Dism.exe/online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
B)If you use the /ResetBase switch with the /StartComponentCleanup parameter, you will be able to remove all superseded versions of every component in the component store. From the elevated command prompt, type the following and hit Enter:
    Dism.exe/online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase
C)If you want to reduce the amount of space used by a Service Pack, use the /SPSuperseded parameter of Dism.exe on a running version of Windows 8.1 to remove any backup components needed for uninstallation of the service pack. From the elevated command prompt, type the following and hit Enter:
    Dism.exe/online /Cleanup-Image /SPSuperseded
Do note that if you carry out this command, you will not be able uninstall existing service packs and updates.
