    So you're saying there's a chance!

No it didn't occur to me to check that, as it's x86 and exceeds the minimum requirements. I'll google it after dinner. SO, I used the XP recovery console to partition and condition because the system has no problem booting that disk.

    As a refrence, here's what I did:

    diskpart /add \Device\HardDisk0 71312

    diskpart /add \Device\HardDisk0 4997

    format \Device\HardDisk0\Partition2 /q /fs:fat32

    fixboot \Device\HardDisk0\Partition2

Now I'm stuck on how to get the files onto the partition. The best option would be to extract from the iso directly to the partition, which I haven't tried yet. What I have tried is connecting a 2nd dvd drive and tried booting and copying using various methods, none successful. If there is a better way or a utility or something please tell me. For now my plan is to look into possible incompatibility issues (which I don't like to do, red herrings and the like,) and find a command line iso extraction utility that can run off a disk. Ideally off the same disk as the iso.

Install Windows XP, upgrade to Windows 7, upgrade to Windows 10 maybe?

Wow that was a fast response. I would have to make an XP Pro 32bit install disk. All I have are 64bit. Does XP support dual processors and hyperthreading? Does MS still require a key for XP installations? I would also need a Windows 7 key to do it this way. If I got up to Win7, would the Win10 upgrade be free? (I do have a Win10 key)

Sorry I haven't updated in about a week. I ended up installing Linux on this machine. I do still need to install win10, but life happens and this project has been moved to the back burner. I'll update again when I make some progress.

My desktop's MOBO is 6 years old. I have Win10Pro on it. My project was to make recovery/repair USB/CD so if need be I could boot in and restore an image. The process was to test the USB & CD after making to see if they would boot. Pressing DEL takes me to BIOS on my MOBO and pressing F8 takes me to the Boot Menu. Neither USB nor CD would boot. Nor could I get the F8 to Boot Menu to work nor occasionally the DEL. (did change the boot priority in the BIOS still no go).

Anyway long story short - I was getting the feeling that maybe my wireless usb keyboard was not working properly. So I dug out an old PS plug in keyboard.

Tried reboot with USB and CD using the plugin keyboard pressing F8 for Boot Menu and the Boot Menu came up and was able to select the USB or CD to boot from.

Either my wireless keyboard was faulty or the old MOBO could not read the input??????? Try a hardwired keyboard to select the MOBO boot menu?????

It's a good thought chideock, as older BIOS often only support PS keyboards and mice. My BIOS supports PS2 and USB inputs, and doesn't support USB booting. I do happen to be using a USB keyboard and mouse, but I have been able to boot with pre-windows7 install disks and other OS install disks. So I don't think that's the issue, but it can't hurt anything to try. In your case, unless your wireless keyboard was malfunctioning, you may need to upgrade your firmware. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll report back with the results.
