Is it necessary to delete all partitions to recover Windows 10?
So I just got my new Acer laptop back from the service center.
I installed Bluestacks yesterday, rebooted, and Windows refused to boot. So I took it to the service center.
The guy at the counter said he'll have to reinstall Windows and my files will be deleted. I thought ok, all my important files are on the other partition (I have 2 partitions on this laptop). And they were going to charge me MYR100++ to backup my files.
Today I get it back and realize they deleted both partitions.
I call them up and ask why? Was it necessary? The guy on the phone says that the whole process is automated, they just run some software to reinstall everything. Hurm... why did I send my laptop to them then?
Soooooo... I'm wondering, is it necessary to delete all partitions to reinstall Windows 10? Right now I really feel like the 1st thing I should have done is ask for help here instead of taking it to the service center. Back in Windows XP and Windows 7 I could easily reinstall Windows by deleting only the partition with Windows on it.
I know I should have created a recovery drive earlier but this laptop is super new and I was busy.
And haha, guess what? I ran my motorcycle over a deep pothole and damaged the rear suspension so my motorcycle was in the workshop yesterday. So I had to use Uber to get to the service center and come back home which was super expensive compared to using my motorcycle.
Sigh.
