IP build 10130 Home to 10147 Pro w/new key - Slow/Fast Build issues

    Hi

I just installed the Win 10 Home 64 Bit Insider Preview Build 10130 about a week ago and had issues with it not allowing any updates other than for some of my hardware drivers and MS Defender updates (I am aware of the KBXXXXX patch to address that, however didn't use it). I joined the insider program sometime ago, so this isn't an issue with anything so far.

In addition to unable to obtain updates, I could not get the 'Slow/Fast' preview build retrieval option to stay in the 'Fast' setting....it always reverts to Slow when I go back to another part of the Settings applet. It's been about 10 hours now and it's still in 'Slow' mode. Within that control panel it shows that I am setup to receive Insider Builds with the ability to Stop by pressing the button below that. I also allowed MS to 'try features on this build' just below that.

Now for some reason I decided (just for kicks) to try and 'upgrade' to the Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview edition build number 10147 just today via changing the activation key with the ones provided for Pro version. Amazingly it downloaded several files, restarted and loaded just fine. The version shows Evaluation copy Build 10147 on the screen in the lower left.

Now I still have the issue of the 'Slow/Fast' staying in Slow mode despite changing it a number of times to fast. I have the 'Defer Upgrades' unchecked.

So I guess I am wondering if anyone has the same issue and if anyone has any Windows updates they have been able to download since installing/upgrading to this build. I only show Windows Defender updates.....that's it.

The taskbar Action Center/notifications shows 'Insider build setting needs attention' and just takes me back to the Updates control panel.

Any suggestions on how to stay in fast mode ??

Quite a few folks experienced the same issue w/10147. Some say that if you did an update to 10130 w/10147 but then went back and did a clean install the fast/slow issue went away. I didn't bother trying, I just went back to 10130.

No issue in 10130. Did clean install of 10147 and had the issue. Did clean install of 10130 and issue disappeared. For me, the problem of staying in the "fast" lane was with build 10147.

    Hi guys

Tnx for the info....glad to know it's not just on my end. Will see if there is a patch to released soon before I revert back to 10130. I guess at this point it's not an issue for me as this is just a test machine.

    Tnx

Had to install 10147 over 10130 to get the fast ring upgrade to stick.

    Hi Cyber

See...that's what I did....upgrade to 10147 from 10130 (within the OS after I replaced the activation code), but I went from Home to Pro and in my case the slow/fast issue was present in 10130 for me, however, I didn't download that KB patch to address it....I couldn't because Windows refused to update anything but a few hardware drivers and Defender updates. It showed no KB updates at all in the 'view installed updates' window.

So in my case, upgrading didn't solve the update issue and thus will have to try the DISM crap again...lol

I just re-read your post. You said 'install over'.....as in repair mode type option before the OS loaded in which it kept your data and just re-installed all the system files ?

In any case, glad you got yours to work there.

Standard "upgrade" install. I installed 10147 clean and had the issue. Where did you find 10130 Home? No issue with the slow ring on 10130 Pro and you may want to give that a try.

    Hi

Roger that. I got the link for the 10130 Home via Google Docs from someone outside the forum here. It's a clean image as others used the same, however, I did not check with them to see if they had the same problem yet. I extracted it to a USB 3.0 key and installed to a new 1GB HDD. I wasn't paying attention to the filename as I downloaded it and thus didn't see the 'home' or 'pro' part.

I don't have the ISO file of the 10130 Home build it seems....I must have dumped it when I got the new one below.

This is the 10147 Pro filename I got via Google Docs: 10147.0.150613-1600.FBL_IMPRESSIVE_CLIENTPRO-CORE_OEMRET_X64FRE_EN-US.ISO - I didn't install a fresh copy of this one yet as I saw you and others had issues with the slow/fast deal....thus I just did an upgrade. I didn't even know if it would upgrade from home to pro just by changing the activation code, but it worked (minus the current issues on hand here)

I will download the 10130 ISO PRO version like ya said and just do a fresh install and then do what you did....after all, that's what this machine is for.....so I don't care if I have to wipe it till hell freezes over :) - or I could just wait to see if another KB patch comes out soon....will see.

The wacky world of Windows 10! I had upgraded my 10130 to 10147 and had some issues w/ fast/slow ring and the "ghost" Spartan icon on the taskbar. Did a clean install of 10147 and "ghost" icon went away but the fast/slow ring issue was present. Went back and did a clean install of 10130 and yesterday I tried to upgrade to 10147 and it failed. This morning I tried the upgrade path to 10147 and everything is fine, no issues with fast/slow ring, just the "ghost" Spartan icon which is not a big issue. 10147 seems pretty solid at this point...but eagerly awaiting the next build.

    Hi Gramps

Tnx for your input. I will try installing the 10130 cleanly and go from there.
