    Reinstalling Win-10 GPT issue

    Hello,

On my laptop, got the infinite loop Startup Repair and did not get a response to the following post that I created:
NDIS.SYS Error 0xc000000f; Loop Startup Repair - Windows 10 Forums

Now, I'm trying to re-install Win-10 on the same partition as I had initially and hoping to keep 2 Data Partitions as is i.e. not do a complete re-format, so that my data partitions remain as is.

However, I get the following error when I select C: to be install partition:
"The partitions on the disk selected for installation are not in the recommended order. For additional information about installing to GPT disks go to MS website ....... ".

    Please help.

    Thanks,
      My Computer

I would recommend you make a bootable USB flash drive or DVD of Kyhi's Recovery Tools:
Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk - Windows 10 Forums

    Boot the computer from it.
Using the disk partitioning program included in it, delete every partition on the drive except for the data partitions that you want to keep. Move the data partitions to the very end of the drive (all the way to the right). You should be left with unallocated space in the front of the drive followed by data partitions at the end.

While you are still in Kyhi's recovery drive, insert the Windows 10 installation USB flash drive or DVD. You can remove Kyhi's recovery tools if you need to - the flash drive or DVD is not required once the computer has booted into Kyhi's recovery drive. While still in Kyhi's recovery tools, run setup.exe from the Windows 10 installation USB flash drive or DVD. Select the custom install option. Select the unallocated space to install Windows 10 to and click Next. Let Windows create the partitions it wants to run and it will not affect the data partitions at the end of the drive.

Since I have a Win-10 USB, I think I can use your 'cool trick'by copying just the boot.wim file to the USB drive. Do I need to download the whole 1 GB or is there a way to get just this boot.wim file to replace the one in Win-10 USB?

Also, how do I ensure that my data partitions are at the end, right now they do not seem to be?

Can I perhaps try to repair the damage again with this? I've tried, unsuccessfully, to repair from Windows-10 repair disk.
Thanks for your assistance in this.

You have to download the whole ISO file, but the boot.wim file is about 850 MB of it. You will use the partitioning program on Khyhi's Recovery tools to actually move yout data partitions to the end of the disk.

Something you can try from Khyhi's Recovery tools is open Macrium Reflect and under the restore menu is an utility to Fix Windows Startup Problems.

I used Reflect as well and tried to fix Windows Boot Issues but still no luck.
Am getting less hopeful of fixing the issue, seems that I'll need to re-install the OS afresh unless you have some other suggestion

    Thanks again,

An install normally will not be able to remove and recreate all the critical partitions. So you normally need to remove those an leave it an unallocated space.

For a Legacy install, possibly a System Reserved and OS partition are involved. For a UEFI, a Recovery, EFI System, MSR and OS.

You should be able to create unallocated space in front of your Data partitions.

Create a bootable UEFI Windows 10 USB Flash Drive with Rufus in my signature.
Boot into Setup (Bios) go to the Security tab, if Safe Boot is Enabled, disable it or choose Setup Mode. Go to the Boot tab, move your USB Flash drive to first Boot Device Save and Exit
Boot off of the Windows 10 installer, choose your Language, then Install, on where to install Windows, in Drive Options, Delete the partitions in front (left) of the DATA partitions you want to keep so all the space up to this point is Unallocated Space. Select this area and go next Windows will create the partitions it needs, format them NTFS during the install of Windows and leave the other partitions.
Be sure to backup your data partitions first in case any thing goes wrong.

    Thanks for your help.

Used Kyhi's Recovery Tools, copied over the boot.wim file to Win-10 install USB drive, removed all partitions other than my data (of course before that I used Reflect to make an image of the 2 data partitions as well as C: drive).

Then reinstalled Win-10 and now need to install all other software.

    Quick question:
I made an image of C: before reinstalling and would like to get some files off of that. I think I can create another partition on my drive, restore this C:\ image to that new partition, grab the files I need and then delete the partition. Is there something that I need to look out for other than having the partition size a bit larger than image?

If the image was created using Macrium. No need to do all that, just double click on the .mrimg backup image to mount it as a virtual drive and select options as shown. Open file explorer then open the virtual C drive, use drag and drop to copy what you need.
