    Win 10 update on a slow,metered internet connection ?

I have not seen this question on here so far. It sounds like the upgrade will be sent by MS at their will.
How would a 2-3 gig download work on a slow, metered connection. I wonder if there will be some other way?
I have to do large downloads between 2 and 7 AM.

I don't know at this stage. But my hope is that Microsoft will keep releasing ISOs past the RTM date, like they do with slow build versions of 10 Preview. If they did that, then I'd also hope that you could do an in-place upgrade from the ISO and still take advantage of the free upgrade offer from 8.1. That way you could download the ISO at your own convenience, instead of using the option to Reserve it (which as I understand would download ahead of 29 July in the background - which might not be good for you).

But I'm just speculating on whether this works - I'm not sure anyone knows for sure yet.

My suggestion at this stage would be to not select the option to reserve Windows 10, until we know more. There's plenty of time after 29 July to take advantage of the free upgrade if you wanted to.

My guess would be that the "preloading" approach is to reduce the loads on the MS servers from millions of folks attempting 3-4GB downloads. It wouldn't make much sense for the preloads to be this big. So, they are probably going to be smaller downloads, several of them, done over several weeks. That way, when the end of July comes, there will be little or nothing to download for those folks who have preloaded their PCs.

Found an interesting thing on HTG today.

"“Reserve” your copy of Windows 10 and your Windows computer will automatically download Windows 10 in bits and pieces before the release date. When Windows 10 is good to go, you won’t have to download a massive installer from Microsoft at the same time everyone else does. It’s a bit like preloading a game or movie before the release date.
If you plan on upgrading when Windows 10 is released, reserve it now. You don’t actually have to reserve — you’ll be able to upgrade for free for the first year. Reserving your copy will just save download time later. Microsoft will likely have a website that walks you through upgrading when Windows 10 is released."

Looks like (if true) that MS thought about slow and metered internet problems.

I am really glad they did this
Instead of spending hours downloading on the 29th, Win 10 will be there just ready to install

I have seen some suspicious downloads on 8.1 but don't know if it already started and if it did, where it went. It seems that checking for updates at BOOT time takes a bit longer now and more is downloaded. Didn't know about this till couple of hours ago, will check internet download log next morning.

I'm with dual boot with 8.1 and 10 so have to reboot to get from one system to another and that happens few times a day but computer itself gets shut down occasionally only, otherwise it's on 24/7. Ok. 10135 just finished downloading, gonna try to update this 10134. Last few attempts finished wit a missing .dll.

Go for it. But you may want to take a gander at this. Windows 10 build 10135 has leaked, but you should stay away from it
