Windows 10: Cloned drive to new pc possible?
Because I convinced the M$ CS lady that I was moving my Windows 8 license to a new Mac, I was granted the new key she said. I was a bit surprised and thankful at the same time that the porting went quite smooth. Great customer service by M$!
Have a nice weekend!
Sorry its been awhile since first posting Ive been waiting on pc coming. After getting advice from above posters, on getting my new pc, i contacted Microsoft and they activated my cloned drive which i had taken from my old pc and inserted it to the new pc. the outcome is i have my windows 10 drive on my new computer and its activated and running sweet.
That's good to hear. Glad everything worked out and your computer is running good and activated.
Sometimes the install will boot in the new PC, and sometimes it will not. With Windows 7, I used to install a third party SATA card in the original machine and install the drivers before the transfer. Then, I'd install the drive and the SATA card in the new machine and boot with the drive connected to the SATA card. Windows would boot and I would update the drivers as needed, and then shut down the machine and remove the SATA card. I am not sure if this will work with Windows 10 or not.
Before the free upgrade ended last summer, I installed a hard drive with a temporary copy of a Windows 10 installation (for an EVGA board) into a Dell Studio 540s. It booted and the drivers loaded, but it was not activated. I entered a Windows 8 Pro upgrade key and it was accepted and the copy activated. Today, with the upgrade offer over, I'd do what you did, and contact Microsoft technical support for a new key.
I just bought a new 2tb HDD to replace my ancient 160gb one. Since I'm overall very happy w/ my Windows 10 installation I decided to clone instead of install fresh and used Macrium Reflect to clone the drive. Upon switching from the old to...
I currently have a cloned 8.1 drive that is unplugged and was done only for back-up before installing 10. Question, since I have no plans to go back to 8.1 I wonder if I should just use it as a test bed for new 10 releases? I guess I could hang on...
I just cloned the new SSD from 128GB to 256GB
And the main partition is not quite exactly the same
I don't have the star screw driver to replace it yet .. so I don't know if it works or not
I just cloned my ssd onto another ssd twice its size however windows reports the size as the same, and in partition manager from windows it wont allow me to expand only shrink the size

I used TrueImage 15 to clone and shrink my win10 load to a new SSD.
Original drive was a 1tb with 120g used in a 900g partition. I had TI clone and shrink that to the 240g SSD. However, the bootmgr was left behind.
I used EasyBCD 2.2 to put the...
