Windows 10 on USB and a Lenovo Yoga 2 issue

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop just over a year old. My Autistic little man was happily playing Roblox when it crashed. He turned it off and on again and the laptop says repairing disk errors and just stays like that day and night. So I have bought Windows 10 on USB as it doesn't have a disk drive but and I stupidly thought it would be as simple as plugging it in the USB drive and hey presto it would be fixed. But it's not.

Could anyone explain the steps I need to take to fix it as I promised my son I'd get it done by now and when you set an Autistic child's expectations and you don't meet them, woe betide you!

    Please help.

    Thank you x

You didn't have to buy anything. The Windows 10 licensing information is stored in the system firmware. You could have made a Windows 10 installer with the Media Creation Kit from Microsoft.

You could have also used the "Reset this PC" option in the recovery options and it would have installed a fresh copy of Windows off the Recovery partition.

If you bought it on a stick and put it into your USB, the computer wouldn't necessarily boot from it. You have to get into the laptop bios and set it to boot from the USB. Then the install will start.

Follow the instructions in this link to get to the bios. Once there you'll have to go to the Boot tab and change it to the USB. You must have the USB plugged in before starting the system.

The problem may be worse than that. If you are getting disk errors, you may have a defective disk and installing a new OS may not work. But since you already have it (and yes, you did need to buy it if you didn't already upgrade to 10), try the upgrade and see what happens. Make sure you have the email and password you need to setup the system during the installation.

On my Friend's Lenovo Flex15 I also had to Turn off SecureBoot and FastBoot in the Bios to Allow the USB to Boot.

If you reinstall windows rather than repair it , you will lose whatever Programs/Apps you have installed too

If the Lenovo came with Windows 10 you should have a Key Combo that lets you put the Laptop back to Factory Original Condition (sometimes F2 as you Power On Laptop) that will reinstall Win10 to like the day you purchased it. (will lose your programs but get all Lenovo's programs Back too)
