    Media Creation Tool Problems

    Hi,

Hope someone can help here. More Windows 10 s**t that is driving me mad!

D/loaded the media creation tool hoping to put Win 10 on a USB to repair my daughters Win 10 installation on an ASUS eeePC (no optical drive).

Running the tool on a Win 7 Home pc (64-bit)

Despite the pc both offering to scan the USB stick for viruses (through Kaspersky) and Windows itself offering to open the USB folder, the Media Creation Tool says it can't find a USB flash drive(!)

Doesn't matter if I put the flash drive in other USB sockets (tried three in total), it doesn't matter whether the flash drive is inserted into the pc before launching the Media Ceation Tool or after - still says it can't find the flash drive!

When I ran the Media Creation Tool on another machine (a Win 7 laptop) it recognises that there is a USB flash drive, it goes through the long, long process of downloading the Win 10 image (which took more than an hour), it says it is then creating the media and then (after 30 mins or so) reports that there is a fault and it can't complete the job.

I have an elderly 32-bit desktop machine which is still running Vista (no, don't laugh, I inherited it). I tried running the Media Creation Tool and got a message saying that it was incompatible (is the Media Creation Tool 64-bit??). Message was "MediaCreationTool.exe is not a valid Win32 application."

Looked at the Micro$oft site and couldn't find a 32-bit version of the Media Creation Tool. There are sites on the web which purport to do this but I am not prepared to download software from companies/organisations that I do not recognise.

So some questions (and can folks please answer these specific questions rather than saying things like "well it worked for me!" or going completely off-topic)

    1) Any idea tow to resolve the "Can't find flash drive error message" when Media Creation Tool deigns to run?

    2) Any idea why the Creation of the media may have failed (the error message was 0x800 something - 0xA0015)

    3) Where can I download a legitimate 32-bit version of the Media Creation Tool?

    Cheers,

    Art

You can try creating a Windows 10 USB media this way. It may work.

    1. Download the Windows 10 ISO from this link: Windows 10 ISO
    2. Create the Windows 10 USB media using Rufus: Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way

This is the way I prefer to do it and it works without any issues.
