clean install of Windows 10 fails

You can also get the GPT Disk setup with Macrium if not doing a Clean Install pretty easily , just make sure to follow the steps here EXACTLY or ask questions if needed.

try this:

1. Boot up Windows Installation USB
2. On the first screen. Hold down SHIFT + F10. A command Windows will pop up. Type:
   diskpart
   select disk 0
   clean
   exit
   exit
3. Continue with the installation, select Customize, click on Disk 0, do not format then click Next, Windows Installation will create all needed partitions then install Windows.

So i did your steps to the T and this is the error code that was kicked back to me.
"We couldn't install Windows in the location you chose. Please check your media drive. Here's more into about what happened: 0x80300002."

- You do not need to change the default UEFI firmware settings, if you install Windows 10 64-bit in UEFI mode or Legacy BIOS mode.

Asus motherboard default UEFI firmware settings.
- When you boot from the Windows 10 USB/DVD in UEFI mode (UEFI prefix in the boot menu), then Windows setup creates a GPT partitioned disk.
- When you boot from the Windows 10 USB/DVD in Legacy BIOS mode (without UEFI prefix in the boot menu), then Windows setup creates a MBR partitioned disk.

This is the part i was originally talking about in my post where "Windows does not create the 4 needed partitions for GPT."

I followed your steps to the T here after freshly cleaning the SSD in diskpart. Heres the error code that was kicked back...

"We couldn't create a new partition. [Error:0x80004005]"

Any more ideas?

That's the part that was stopping me. My SSD only had one partition and it was unallotted when I clicked continue It would start making the needed partitions and install Windows 10. Then I would get a message about not being to install Windows 10. When I clicked on New all partitions were made and I was asked were I wanted to install Windows 10. I chose the primary partition and Windows 10 installed.

As WinUser said...... try it again , Clean it again , and Try the NEW Button instead of the Next Button instead...

Or you tried that too already maybe? Feather's way......

This issue seems to be if the Drv was once formatted MBR and you are now trying to Goto GPT , not sure if that is the case for you?

Silly question maybe is your bios in UEFI Mode ? so you can see GPT at boot

Since reading this post i have gone back and reset the Asus UEFI Bios to optimized defaults. I am in the process of creating another Windows installation media USB as after my last attempt the USB went bad.

So the MB is in UEFI MODE ?

Check that the Storage Controller is in AHCI Mode (or Raid) not IDE too , if you set things to Optimised Defaults.

Is the system in your Specs the one you are working one? ...you mentioned your Girlfriend being happy or is that just cos you are spending more time with your computer than Her :)

hmmmm is that another Clue ? ------------------------------------^^^^^^^^

Did you Clean the SSD and Then try installing Windows to the USB Key by accident instead of the SSD perhaps ?
