So the time is spent after I update? It shut down very quickly while i was writing the last post.
I don't understand what you mean, but we don't know what update it was installing - could have been a small update to the virus definitions for Windows Defender. Just know that, when you reboot it, if it says it's installing updates, be patient because it has to finish on the re-boot side of things.
Issue resolved. I had the 'dongle' for my HP wireless mouse in a 10-in-1 USB port hub close to the mouse pad. It worked there before the upgrade. I don't want to trouble shoot it now, but I could not read a thumb drive on it, but it worked fine i one of the front usb ports on my case. I moved the mouse dongle there and all is copacetic.
Put a stick into a hornet's nest and you'll probably get stung...
Bedtime soon. I need to be up before 6 to fix my breakfast and get to a 7:30 Men's Bible Study on time. Last night was unmercifully short. Unfortunately it is clear that there is a heavy rock show at Shoreline Amphitheatre just to the south of us and the sound is coming in, off and on, loud and clear. Ah, life.
Dinner was my first good one in days: baked sweet potato, baked Amish paste tomatoes from the garden, and tofu baked with sun-dried, salt-cured black olives, thyme, and smoked blue cheese on top, accompanied by a green salad with a dressing concocted in the moment, accompanied by a nice dry Riesling.
I'm glad you have your mouse sorted and that you had a good Dinner. Last night was pretty short. Get some rest and recover from this upgrade. I think this will be all downhill from here. You have the worse part behind you and you did a lot of work to make this successful. You should sleep well and feel proud of yourself. Congratulations.
I don't want to let a "20% off the regular price" offer from Macrium on Macrium Reflect v6 Home Edition expire before I ask if it is worth the $56 they are asking.
Early in this thread I tried using the 'free' version to create an image of my Win 7 system as an early step in installing Windows 10. The messages are on pages 2 & 3 of this thread. It seemed to be working and then I tried a backup with verification on and it failed. When I tried to verify earlier images they didn't verify either. We gave up on imaging because we were concerned about the time we had available to complete the task and finally settled on a clean install on my unused 128GB SSD. Once 10 was installed and activated I 'took a break' and I'm still on that 'break' running Win7/Pro x64. It is time to get back to work on the migration to Windows 10.
My search results to understand what happened to my Reflect images keep turning up forum posts by users of the 'free' version who report that Macrium keeps its word and does not support the 'free' version.
Should I open a new thread on sevenforums to explore why Reflect is not working for me, or do we discuss it here? Should i bite-the-bullet and pay the $56 for 1 year of support from Macrium? Have others found that registered users do get help from Macrium that solves problems they encounter?
Clearly we will want to do regular images as I make the switch to Windows 10, no? I will need a working copy of Reflect, free or paid.
thanks,
baumgrenze
I have the same opinion. I have used it for years and never found a need to have the paid version. For what I do, even the free version has options I don't use. (sorry Macrium, but it's true)
EDIT: I remember your issues with Macrium, but I think it was a problem with your file system that caused it not to verify.
