BIOS settings to enable USB Boot in Gigabyte Motherboard: Gigabyte Motherboard GA-P35-DS3L (rev. 2.0) uses AWARD BIOS which is usually quite good. I updated my BIOS sometime back and never had any issues since. However, I suspect during that BIOS update, it must’ve reset settings to safe-boot mode or similar which wipes out some of the config’s I had there. After much testing and reboots, following settings always seems to work for both Windows and Linux Live USB Boot in Gigabyte Motherboard.

1. During boot sequence, press DEL key in keyboard and go to BIOS settings.
2. Enable Integrated Peripherals > USB Legacy.
3. Enable Integrated Peripherals > USB Storage.
4. Set Boot Order to HDD, CD-ROM, Network.
5. Now plug in Live USB Boot stick and reboot.
6. Press F12 at the Boot Screen to bring up the Boot Menu.
7. Choose HDD+ on the Boot Screen, don’t choose other USB options.
8. Now choose your USB Device on the next screen and press ENTER.

This should take you to your Live USB Boot. Hope this helps someone out there. Thanks for reading. If you found this helpful, please share.

The author does not show the boot choice screen he is talking about and my eyes are getting bleary as well. Probably time to dent my pillow, too.

My BIOS screen was quite different. I never found Enable Integrated Peripherals.

Can I copy the files on the USB stick to a DVD and run it from the player?

I'm running out of ideas

I am working on my absent wife's Dell. Early this morning I rebooted my GamePC (3/2008) and as Win 7 reached the Welcome screen it stuttered and hung on Welcome with a 'rolling wheel.' I tried both SSDs with the same result and as the only connected drive. They had been working. The only symptom is 6 quick clicks, then 5 quick clicks (soft but audible) coming from probably the MOBO. I have all the drives out, although it would only be a few minutes to put one SSD back to try again. These are not spinners, but SSDs. 8.3 years is pretty long in desktop years, no?

I had to reset my PW to get here. Thank goodness tenforums.com does not assume a 'default email address.' It will be another challenge to get into Yahoo to check mail there, and it is the default for many websites.

The BlackX has a fancy new USB port, square with a white post in the middle. I could check my data disk, but mostly I used the PW manager in SeaMonkey to keep track of recently changed PWs.

I release you to help those still on the path to an upgrade today with deep gratitude. You all ROCK!

No, it is the Win 7 screen. I see the one that should present Welcome and Log in stutter a few times, then it goes to Welcome with a 'rolling wheel' and hangs. I shut down by pushing the reset button and pulling the power.

The MOBO is sending beeps but they are too fast for me to count. It is way more than the 6 then 5 I thought I heard last night.
