    Windows 10 Upgrade

    Hi,

I currently use Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit) and upgraded to Windows 10, and my question is will it be possible to do a fresh install of Windows 10 using my Windows 7 key without installing with the Windows 7 CD?

I hope so as it takes ages to install Windows 7 and all the patches/updates.

    Thanks for any reply.

That information has not been provided by Microsoft yet, but I would bet on yes. If they don't provide the information on how to do this, someone here will figure it out

Did you upgrade OVER Win7? If so, then Win7 is gone.

What MIGHT happen is that MS will allow a clean install if you then are able to provide a valid activation key for Win7, even though you don't actually have Win7 still installed.

But, this is just guessing and no one really knows at this point.

You don't need your Win 7 key. Win 10 is still on preview stage and free for everyone to install and use until Oct 2015. You can install it as many times as you want.

You can download the ISO file from here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...so-update-1503

I think he is talking about a Clean install of Windows 10 once it's released.

Yep, hoping they allow a fresh install - if you have a valid Win 7 or 8 key. (Hoping)

You should have done a backup before doing the upgrade to Win 10 - that way, you are covered either way. If the Win 10 Gold installer requires a valid OS install, you can just use the image to reinstall Win 7. And you won't need to install any updates, a virgin Win 7 should suffice.

From what i've read from MS insiders on various forums, the prevailing belief is you will be able to upgrade/clean install using either the valid Win 7/8 license as proof of being legit, eligible for a free cop[y of Win 10.

Even if backup was not made and only upgrade is only option if you still have original keys for W7/8 you can always download a vanilla windows and upgrade over that.

The answer to my next question is probably on this forum somewhere, but I feel lazy today and don't feel like rummaging thru it all. When we upgrade to 10 from 7 or 8.1, installed at the time or not, will we lose the product key for previous version? In other words, once upgraded to 10, is the old version product key still valid?
