You don't need to get into the home screen to do a clean install. You can just put the burned DVD in the DVD drive. Switch the computer off. Switch it on with the DVD in the drive. If it's set to boot from DVD it should boot from the disk. If it's not set to boot from the DVD then you'd need to go into the bios by either pressing F something (whatever it is for your computer) or by pressing the escape key repeatedly.

If that doesn't work, then the fast boot is probably selected in Windows 10 (I had that problem) and it doesn't boot. So then try unplugging the computer, taking the battery out, holding down the power button for about 30 seconds, then put battery back and connect power cable, then (with the DVD in the drive) switch on and press escape repeatedly. If you know the F button to press to go into boot menu then press that repeatedly rather than the Escape key, but if you don't they Escape key usually brings up a list of options - one of which might be "boot from dvd".

Sorry I thought when you said you couldn't do a clean install you already had the DVD. You can download the ISO from Microsoft and burn it to dvd on another computer. Providing your Windows 10 was already activated (which it should have been) you can just clean install from the DVD and it will activate. You need to select the right version to burn (ie the same as the version that's already on the machine - so select 32 bit or 64 bit and select Windows 10 or Windows 10 Professional, before burning the dvd. Also the same language (usually English US but if you selected something different to that last time, then do the same on the Microsoft page before downloading the ISO.

You can download it on this page by clicking on the blue download button - but best read th info about it further down the page first. When you install and get to product key just click "I don't have a product key" if it was a free upgrade of Windows 10.

I think so but I'm not the one to ask about burning it to a usb :) If you do a clean install, any personal files you had on there would be lost. Did you have your files on the system before it went wrong? If so someone more experienced might suggest how you can get into the system or try and get them back before doing a clean install.
