Here is some of the latest scoop from MS about reactivate win10:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ardware-change

I think you may possibly be denied reactivation based on #2 or #3 bullet at the end of the article.
I'll post what I find out when I test ... it might be a while (weeks or months)

It's why I created the thread - I have a retail Win8 Pro license, the free upgrade stated that it was a one-for-one upgrade (at least it did at one time), meaning a Win8 retail upgraded entitles Win10 retail. I was curious about the details when news about the activation troubleshooter came out.

Worst case, I won't be able to transfer the license without contacting MS. No big deal, unless the retail transfer is denied. I've always had good results when contacting MS, this is a new scenario though ... we shall see.

This machine will probably be in service for a few more years, there is no immediate impetus other than knowing if and how it works.

No. Plenty of us have fully tested this. We've done just about everything imaginable, including moving the previous Windows 7/8/8.1 retail product key to a different computer both within 30 days and outside 30 days of using it to upgrade an old computer to Windows 10 with. About 7-8 months ago there was a very prominent member on this forum who used to absolutely swear that a Windows 7/8/8.1 product key became unusable after it was upgraded to Windows 10. After fully testing it himself using a valid experiment he discovered that we were right. The Windows 7/8/8.1 product key is no more affected by the upgrade to Windows 10 than moving it to a new computer without upgrading it.
Hmm.. interesting Is there a thread where I can read this stuff sometime?

    Not yet.
I might have to wait until I get a machine to refurb to test, then restore the original OS. I'd like it to be a clean real world test - not a virtual test.

Other members have exercised Activated with a Digital License tied to a MS account and that seems to work.
Now, thats an experiment I'd like to see the results. Or try in near future.

Not sure what is up at Github but the link in the 1st post of the other thread you posted in is working AFAIK. I think I read he had stopped work on it as it was finished though
