    simrick.
I'm back and up and running.
Decided yesterday early evening to have a go at the mater in question. All went okay but I did make one little mistake I selected the wrong option to save my files etc and therefore it did a complete new reinstall.
That wasn't a problem as I didn't have a great deal of programs on the C drive it was office and printer photo edit software. All round it took about three hours all together doing the reinstall of programs etc.
Also I had to delete the earlier windows through the disc clean up as it was windows old.Went okay.
C Drive is now 25GB SSD would that be about right for windows 10.As all documents are on another internal hdd.

Now getting back to some of the issues that I had before they have seemed to be solved since this new install.
But there is one annoying problem that is getting on my ****.Is the new mail that is in windows 10 the app is working okay having new mail and sending all is well.
The only issue is the new mail notification does not work it don't show up in the notification box near the clock.I had this problem before now with a now install I thought that it would have been solved But it aint.

See my posting on the mail app here.Done all the settings possible.

Is there an email notification software that I can install to solve this issue an independent software I know its not a big problem but its very annoying that something that should work and it don't.
Well many thanks for all your help once again.
    David.

    Hi David.
Glad to hear it's finished, and went well. Good thing you only had a few applications to reinstall! So your W10 installation is taking up about 25GB on your SSD? That sounds about right, yes. Did you have the mechanical drive (data) physically disconnected when you did this?

I will have a read of your thread and the linked instructions there. I do have one question though - if you installed Office, do you have Outlook then, for emails?

    David.
I'm sorry, as I don't use an email client at all on my systems. I grab all my emails from the web-based interfaces, so I'm not very well-versed on this stuff. I do, however, install email clients for others, and maintain computers which use email clients, so I am familiar with them. Personally, I prefer Thunderbird, but that would defeat the integration with Cortana and the W10 OS in general. So, let me see what I can find poking around.

Yes I have Microsoft office 2010 and yes I use outlook.com and gmail for email.
I do hope that I can overcome this issue.
What it is my wife has a laptop with exactly the same settings as my desktop office 2010 and outlook email.

    Thanks David

Okay, so you've got your outlook and gmail addresses setup in the Outlook email client from Office 2010?

    A little info for you:

First, now that Outlook email client is installed, please see here, Option #1, how to set your default apps.
Default Apps - Choose in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
It should show Outlook as your default for both email and calendar. Outlook email client will show notifications in your taskbar, as long as the program is open and minimized.

If you want to use the Mail App, and Calendar App, you'll need to change the defaults here.

If you still can't get the notifications working with the Mail & Calendar Apps, I did find some alternative notification options for you:

    Howard Email Notifier
    Howard::Outlook.com / GMail / Yahoo / mail.ru / orange.fr / Lotus Notes Email Notifier - The SZ

    Pidgin IM Chat Client
    Pidgin

Now, Pidgin is an IM chat client, but it will also give you email notifications.
5 Tips and Tricks to Get the Most Out of Pidgin

I'd really like to see the integral notifications working, but these are some options for you.

I'm sorry - not sure why, if you have yours and your wife's set up exactly the same - it doesn't make sense. Please let us know if you try one or both of those notifiers, and what you like/dislike of them. Would be good to know for future. Thanks.

    Hi Thanks
Have just tried the Howard one.
The only issue it has when it shows up a new mail it takes me to the Microsoft web outlook mail not the windows 10 mail app.
Rather confusing as if the mail app in W10 does not act as default,I have tried all avenues to get this as default.
There must be something drastic here.
The second one Pidgin showed up as corrupt file.
Been thinking about trying Thunderbird email,But on the other hand this damn mail app should be working.
Thanks once again.......Bed time now will be having another bash at it tomorrow with a rather large hammer.
    Very strange.
    David.

I agree, the Mail App should be working. Not sure what the problem is.
Thunderbird is a great email client. It's a Mozilla project, just like Firefox Browser.
