    Unable to Install Win10 on tablet using USB - Boot Fail?

    Hello;

    The resolution for me was to 'Disable Secure Boot'!

    I thank everyone for the assistance.

    Here is my original question:
    I'm unable to install the windows 10 tech preview. Any assistance is appreciated.

    1. I downloaded the iso file from the windows page http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso The english 64 bit version.
    2. Then used Rufus to create a bootable USB drive.
    3. Then set bios to use USB first
    4. Then when pc restarts the I get a bios looking error screen that states 'Boot Failed'

    I'm using a 2 in 1 tablet HP Pavilion x2 K3N13UA#ABA with a keyboard. ( I've tried with and without the keyboard not sure if that matters )

    When I restart the pc the usb shows the red light flickering as if it was reading but then it just boots as normal just boots into Win8.1. I also when the pc is on going to control panel then recovery options then chose the 3rd option which is to restart and boot from usb and then when I restart I get the Boot Failed message as shown below:

    Rufus: I've tried a few different combinations with rufus I've tried the MBR for Bios or UEFI comp combined with NTFS & Fat32. I've also tried the GFT for UEFI with FAT32.

    Any suggestions on how to install windows 10 on a tablet using a USB

    Thanks in advance;

    Have you opened the usb drive while your device is booted up and had a look at it? If this is not a main production pc maybe you could start the install while booted. Mount the usb and click on set up? Sounds to me like something wrong with your iso.
    Good luck to you and welcome to 10Forums

    What settings did you use with Rufus?

    I did open the USB drive and saw the setup.exe. I will try to just click that tonight; I guess I didn't think that would work but it's worth a try. I'll reply tonight. Thanks for the suggestion.

    I used the :
    GFT partition scheme for UEFI comp - ( the default one)
    NTFS
    4096 byte - ( default cluster size )
    I pointed it to the iso and the radio button was standerd windows installation.

    Basically all the defaults. That was my first thought that it might have been a setting when I made the USB bootable drive.

    Another Idea I had that I'll try tonight is that it's a HP pavilion 2 in 1 and I was trying without the keyboard. Tonight I'm gonna try it with the keyboard plugged in. Does anyone know if that would make a difference?

    USB Flash Drive - Create to Install Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

    Use the settings in Brink's tutorial. Try FAT32 as your file system.

    You are right cyberrufus
    I saw that mentioned in another thread. Bet that would be the first thing for ccatto to try. Wouldn't take long to re rufus that drive.

    Ok FAT32 I'll try it tonight. Sounds good. I remember changing that drop down to FAT32 and the Rufus app automatically changed it back to NTFS so I went that way. I'll reply when I try that. I appreciate all the feedback & assistance.
