I don't care about start screen anymore. It used to bug me during the early days of Windows 8 and I just got tired of it and never used since. Start screen is good... for mobile devices. Whenever I do a clean install, the first thing I do is install Chrome and Classic Shell.
With classic shell, you don't actually lose the start screen, it's still there inside the Win-7-like start menu.
Can you still pull up the start screen with Classic shell in the latest build??

Hi Jeff,, It seems that a lot of people complained that the start menu was gone in Win8 and MS supplied what the customers wanted. I know some like the start screen.. but that's gone.. In the end, you can still use Win8 and use classic shell and get the start menu and the start scree.
yes Bunny, but the option in build 9926 was a better choice. Everybody could have been happy.

    hi guys,

Again....when hitting the left corner and see what is coming.... i will have to go back to Win 8.1.

I do not like to be forced to sign-in with the MS account either.

Microsoft wants to control everything and that is what is going to happen.

Same with Facebook, they know everything about you and others.

I like my local account and when needed i can sign-in on the MS account.

Last time i did that, it took for ages before i could work on the PC since the MS account was taking over all the files and folders.

Afterthat i had to reverse that, so no thanks guys.

    hi guys,

maybe all i get is because i was on build 9926 and all of a sudden MS installs at night build 10049. The problem with build 9926 is that you cannot shut down updates, because that option was gone in 9926.

When i hit the left corner with the right mouse click, hit search, type in, let's say OFFICE and then i get the answer that search needs to be reinstalled.

I will go back to builld 9926 and then try to say to MS what i did say here.

It will look like there are apps missing from the All Apps menu, there are some sub menus now. You'll see a triangle or something ( I'm on windows 8.1 at the moment) beside the ones with more entries that are hidden in a sub menu.

Absolutely! Should be the first pinned item at top of Classic Shell menu, if you ticked the option in Shell setup. Works perfectly! Also has an "Apps" button on right side of start screen that will list all apps in cascading menu.

Or you can set the start button to do it, or the Win key. I have start button set to hover to open classic shell and click to open 10 start menu, also win key to open 10 start menu. Options galore!

Is that a way of getting the old Windows 8 start screen or does it open the new expanded start menu?
