Create DECENT Cascading menu in W10

Hi there

For those who don't like the new start menu (I hate it too).

This method is from an old post of mine from W8 that still works in W10. You don't need any 3rd party registry Hacks etc and you can save the data so if you update to a new release you don't have to do it again. Simply select the applications you want.

It basically works by creating a CUSTOM Toolbar.

here's a sample on build 10041 (note you can move the my progs icon bar to the left if you want).

Note You can also save Internet links as well - simply add a new folder say Sites and paste the links into it. (create a favourite first in IE) then copy the link into your folder as Internet short cut, then delete the favourite if you don't want it in the favorites.

Start8 or Classic Shell gives you a good Start Menu, why do it this way? Just curious.

Yes it does. Had to rename the Classic Shell installer ClassicShellSetup_4_1_0.exe (I named it CShellSetup_4_1_0.exe) before it would install on Win 10 TP 10041. Once I did that it installed okay and works great. Much better than the hybrid Start menu/screen which I completely dislike.

The main problem with things like classic shell are some things appear on it which are a nuisance to get rid of. The toolbar method is 100% USER configurable and can include things like Internet links too . (And metro stuff it you really want those as well).

Plus of course you can have more than ONE toolbar too. With Classic shell you only get ONE menu so it could get HUGE and unmanageable.

Sometimes you might want to save a site somewhere other than in the internet browsers favourites. You can then open these directly without having to open IE first (or your default browser).

Another advantage is it's easy by simply adding another folder to create as many levels as you want in the cascading structure.

You can SAVE the file as well and simply on a NEW build or clean install just create the custom toolbar and all your entries are there - no work at all required.

(To create decent ICONS simply download the last free version of ICOFX - cut and paste via snipping tool the initial sport for example logo when starting the app, convert to ICO with the ICOFX program and change icon in the shortcut properties).
