Upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 question

I have just upgraded my daughters HP Pavilion g6 (64bit Windows 8.0 OEM) Notebook PC to Windows 8.1 from a factory reset from the recovery drive. I used Windows Updates to update up to the point I could install Windows 8.1 from the link in the store and so far everything has went well and Windows 8.1 is now installed. My question now though is, do I need to update everything to date through Windows Update first or can I go straight ahead to the Store and update to Windows 10 directly from that link?.

I haven't done it myself, but I believe that you don't have to install all Windows updates on 8.1 before upgrading to 10.

You could have gone directly from 8.0 to 10, but you would have had to use one of the upgrade methods other than Windows Update. (At least, according to what I've read here.)

You don't need any updates to upgrade to Windows 10, but not sure how to do it from the store. I do it from ISO downloaded with Media Creation Tool or from Microsoft Tech Bench.

I have an HP pavilion 15 that I upgraded (also came with 8 OEM, which I upgraded to 8.1, and now to 10). I used the media creation tool to upgrade, the store was kind of buggy when I tried to do it (although that was a long time ago), and honestly I would just use that to do it. Easier that way

I ended up just installing from the store and all went well although it took quite a while and I thought I had a problem as it hung up on 82% for a couple of hours at least. I googled conflicting replies and results but opted for just leaving it and going to bedand hey presto it had all installed perfectly next day. To answer my original post, you can't really make a mistake installing from the store as it checks the system in both 8.0 - 8.1 and 8.1 - 10 in order to see that everything is OK prior to installing. Anyway thanks again for your help.
