Left "Download now upgrade later" for 13 hours, nothing happens ?

    Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade from Windows 7, Ive gotten the prompt before and selected "Download now upgrade later". It worked last time and even showed me a progress bar, but when it was finished and I was asked to select the day I wanted to do the update, I changed my mind and followed this guide

Prevent the Windows 10 upgrade from installing after making your reservation | Windows 10 content from SuperSite for Windows

Then this guide here, so I could do it later.

ESD to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 ESD File - Page 56 - Windows 10 Forums

Ive changed my mind and decided to enable do the update again. I got the prompt to update to Windows 10 and selected "Download now upgrade later". I left this for 13 hours straight and nothing happened. The $WINDOWS.~BT folder is on the drive, but its only 28kb in size.

Any idea why its not working now when it did previously ?.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi.
If you have the ESD file and converted it to an ISO, you could simply mount the ISO and run setup.exe, and proceed with the upgrade.
    See the tutorial here:
    Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums

In the video, go to Part III: Upgrade Using a Windows 10 ISO which begins at 14:42
Please also watch Part I for preparations.

    Hope that helps!

EDIT: If you haven't been able to grab the ESD file, you could just download the ISO from MSTechBench, and do the same.

Thanks, so as long as I have gotten the update to windows 10 prompt, the MSTechBench method should work for updating from windows 7 ?.

Yes, correct. You could also go to the MS Media Creation Tool website, and there download the GWX (Get Windows Ten) tool. But the TechBench ISO would be faster and easier I think.

Everything is covered in this tutorial and video.

Personally, I would do a clean install of W10, and use your W7 keycode to activate it. If you're able to do this, it would be the best route. Upgrades can tend to migrate issues/problems, and a clean install would alleviate that.

If you don't know your W7 key, you can grab it with this program.

Good luck and let us know how it goes for you. :)
