Upgrading windows 10 home to windows 10 pro

Hello, I recently bought a new laptop that comes with windows 10 home. I just have a couple of question about upgrading windows 10 home to windows 10 pro?

I have a windows 8 retail copy installed into a laptop that no longer works, can i use this key to upgrade my Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro?

I understand that i need to use a generic key to upgrade my windows 10 home to windows 10 pro before i can use the windows 8 key. If any reason my windows 8 key doesn't work can i use my windows 10 home key to downgrade or do i need to do i clean install.

You won't be able to downgrade. It is possible the when you attempt to activate Windows 10 Pro with the Windows 8 Pro key you will get an error stating that the Windows 8 product key is in use on another computer. Then you are going to have to temporarily install Windows 8 on an empty partition and activate it on the new laptop, probably via toll free phone number, then it will activate Windows 10 and you can delete the Windows 8 temporary partition.

i did what you told and i installed windows 8 and activated it by phone. i have have some questions

Now that its activated can i upgrade my windows 10 home to pro?

i would need to use a generic key to upgrade it and than change product key is that correct?

would Microsoft ever deactivate my windows seeing that they never asked me if it a retail key and why i'm installing on a new laptop.
