    badrobot. I do have the key put have go back to Compaq for help.
    I see the note from Ault? that there intention is to be able to go thru all the updates and I would have 10 when done.
    Is he saying to just leave 9926 on the laptop and continue with the releases.
    I guess I will mark it solved for now.

    Not sure. Perhaps your existing key will be applied to the upgrade or they may issue a new one.

    Even if that materialized, I will clean install the final version. :) Even when upgrading from 7 to 10, I will clean install 7 before getting 10.

    I'm using a Win8 Pro key... I expect to take it all the way through RTM. (that activation works at all may be that it is being tested on TP as well...)

    Makes sense.
    (I'd still rather fork over 15 or 30 bucks and get a fresh iso and product key, (or two), though.)

    thanks again to everyone who helped with tips or copies of what is going on. I will hang tight until the final release and see what
    it gets me. I have two other systems with 8.1 Pro and one of them should get me what I am looking to get
