I know this is an old thread, but could not find another more appropriate. I have installed Windows 10 32-bit v1809 on a HP Stream 7 tablet that has only 32GB internal storage space (Windows drive, C) and a 64GB SD card (D drive). I have already compacted OS and compressed the C drive but the free space is barely 9GB, not enough to upgrade to newer Windows 10 build. Also Windows Setup won't allow me to use the free space on the SD card to proceed, so I tried connecting a USB Flash drive with OTG adapter in order to use that. However Windows setup insist on using at least 12GB free space on C which I have not. I didn't have the time to try upgrading to v2004, but I'm afraid that it will too demand at least 12GB free space on C to proceed. Anyone knows if this is still valid? Is there some other workaround the free space on C limitation (such as some command line parameter to ignore that and proceed) ?

Another workaround I have thought of is to clone the internal storage in a large USB Flash drive or USB hard disk and then expand the Windows partition to take all extra space. I would then connect the drive on another computer and virtualize it using VMWare. This means that I create a new virtual machine but instead of creating a new virtual hard disk I configure it to use the USB Flash drive physical disk as the machine's hard disk. I would then boot into the cloned Windows 10 installation and upgrade to v2004. Then I would cleanup the drive to make the used space as little as possible and then clone back to the tablet. If that works, the tablet should load Windows 10 v2004 successfully and I would then upgrade any drivers necessary (including the chipset driver to restore the touch and rotation functionality). This sounds like a lot of trouble, but I certainly prefer that than clean installing Windows 10 v2004 and having to reinstall all my applications and restore all my settings! Believe me a clean install is a lot more work than an in place upgrade to v2004!

Any help appreciated. Not that is absolutely necessary to upgrade the tablet to v2004, it works fine with v1809, but I would like to have the latest for maximum performance and maximum compatibility.

    Hello!

I have some new information I would like to share. I recently tried to upgrade my work laptop from Windows 10 v21H1 to v21H2. The free space was about 9GB, but Windows Setup didn't complain about available space, and did not ask about a USB Flash drive to proceed. It seems Microsoft fixed this inconvenience in newer builds. I will some time attempt to upgrade my HP Stream 7 from Windows 10 v1809 to Windows 10 v21H2 and report here.
