...I just downloaded and retried a reinstall with a "keep data and apps" and it failed with the same stupid "Something Happened" message from Microsoft. someone had me check reagentc, and it shows Enabled, and on disk0 a partition Recovery\WindowsRE. I guess windows put that there when I did my scratch install for my upgrade to 10 back when it first came out. Thing is the Recovery image location is blank. Index is 0. same for custom, so I guess that's of no use.
Hi. Not trying to build up any hopes here, and I do believe that, in the end the clean install is probably the only solution at this point...but, just wondering:

Is there an issue with the recovery partitions?

I tried to re-read this thread, but it's pretty long, has several people's issues going on, and I've not had nearly enough coffee yet...

And, do you have your libraries pointed to another drive, other than default?

There should be a setuperr.log on your system, usually found at C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther
Have we looked at that yet? Might be some clues.

I posted a link to pastebin upthread I think. But I'll get a fresh copy of the latest when I get up this afternoon (I cover nights on the cardiac floor of a large Level I trauma center hospital, so pretty sleepy right now).

As far as Macrium goes, I have a paid copy I use regularly. Also have licensed full version of Paragon HD Manager available as a secondary if needed.

If you have anything else, I'll be back in about 6-7 hours to read it and act on it if possible. Im off tonight so I have a little time to attend to this.

Its cool how everyone here is using their time to help a complete stranger. Its very much appreciated - you are generous without realizing just how much it means to someone who is stuck flailing around.
There is so much truth in this paragraph right here....couldn't agree more!

And somewhat off the subject, but if you're gonna have the box "ripped" (lol) apart for cleaning, consider popping in a fresh CMOS battery, they're cheap. One less thing down the road.

We'll all wait for your next posts. Good luck!

    @Murdabenne
One thing someone else has bought up, and I can't remember if we did this. Have you tried running SFC /Scannow from your command prompt admin ??? Also Dism command. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    1 Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    2 SFC /Scannow

After running scannow command it will create a log file . Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.
Save that log file, as we would need to view this file.

If only you live close to my place, I'd gladly pick up your PC and do a clean install for you while you are taking your sleep. Would be nice to wake up to a clean and fast PC. :)
