Yes I am trying go from 10240 to 1511. Windows Update will not work at all, so I was trying another way.

All windows update does is tell me the upgrade is ready and to restart for the install to start....then it does nothing but restart. This happens over and over. Not in a boot loop or anything, just schedules a restart and does nothing... But restart.

I agree that the idea of this great, but once again Microsoft screws it up. This is the most frustrating thing I have ever dealt with.

I do have the key, I used jellybean to get it, plus it's on the bottom of the PC.

Is there any thing else I can try? I really don't want to reinstall all my stuff.

    Thank you everyone

Is that what this user was trying to do, Upgrade from 10240 to 1511 ?? ....by ISO According to Brink, this can't be done this way.
User has to upgrade to 1511 only thru Windows Update. Which I didn't know until few hours ago, when Brink was telling this other user, same thing.
I would like to read what Brink had said.
I hope you were not quoting old thread. MS had once pulled the MCT and Tech Bench, and told users to upgrade via Windows Update ONLY.
    But that was last year.

According to what I was told only way to upgrade to Windows 1511 is thru your Windows 10240 As Windows will only update like to like versions. Brink told this other user, to try this Bat file that will RESET your Windows 10 version 10240. THEN run Windows Update. You may have to run this 2 to 3 times, each time you run this, REBOOT. Then try to run your Windows update.

Easy folks, all ideas are welcome here. I am willing to try anything. I just want to get this thing upgraded and not lose my stuff.

I will try the batch file and see what we have after that.

    Thanks again everyone

You should be able to upgrade doing so from an ISO, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to keep everything or not.

    Thanks @Brink

I tried by just mounting the iso. I am going to run your bat file a few times with reboot in between. Then see if update will actually work.

If it doesn't, then I don't know what else to do but either deal with no upgrade or lose everything and clean install.....unless you have some other ideas?

    Thanks

This user has tried 2 or 3 times already, with no success yet. He gets about 75% done, then it fails Shawn. So, after what you were saying earlier, I thought he had to use your Bat file to Reset his Windows Update, and install it thru his windows 10240 version to upgrade to 1511. Thought you said, User could only upgrade like to like versions??? Now, you got me confused??

Unless your saying he could do a Clean install using a 1511 ISO.....and yes, user would lose everything, and have to reinstall all his personal apps and files.

That would only apply for a repair install. You would normally be able to upgrade to any build though, but no guarantee on what is able to be kept.

I'm not sure what issue is causing the upgrade to fail though.

Is there anything else I can provide to help you all troubleshoot?
