I need to perform an install on new drive - what problems will occur?

I have to do an install of Windows 10. It was only a few days ago I just installed to a hdd. The hdd is clearly screwed at a certain point. I copied a load of stuff to it and it is now totally locked into doing something. Whatever it is trying to figure out - I have seen it do it before. Just to cut a long story short - I am about to install win10 to a new drive. ssd incidentally.

do I need to completely format over that disk partition with win 10 on it before doing a new install on the new drive? What I am asking is whether it will refuse to license it if it detects another win10 on the system. Just that portion of the disk is screwed but I have stuff on different parts of that disk that are fine... They can stay. I will simply consider that partition out of bounds from now on.

    any advice?

Disconnect the old hard drive. Clean install Windows 10 to the SSD with only the SSD connected. Click skip, do this later or I don't have a product key when asked for a product key. After Windows 10 is up and running on the SSD, then reconnect the old hard drive as your second drive.

I cannot believe I just did this but I went and put the key in - it is installing now. It was impatience. I should have checked but I just jumped right in. I completely removed that old drive though. I was actually going to do what you said - reconnect it after and try to format that section.

i am kind of in damage control mode now! Do you think I will need to phone them and resolve it? Do they have operators on the line or is it automated?

It it is a completely legit copy. It was just a completely bad hdd it was on.

It is perfectly acceptable to reinstall Windows 10 on a new drive.
