Macrium image restore changes partition layout

I tried one again to use Macrium to backup only C:, clean install then restore only C:.
Once again it did more that I asked it to and removed the 16MB partition created by the clean install.

After clean install I had this, 4 partitions on Disk 0 (SSD):


After restore I had this, 3 partitions o n Disk 0 (SSD):


I did not run the Macrium fix boot option after the restore so when I rebooted Win 10 ran Auto repair then the system booted up normally.

Why is Macrium doing this? Any idea?

Guess I'll ask in the Macrium forum and see what I can find out.

The reason I'm doing this is is Shift Restart from Power is not working, it just boots normally.

I just redid the steps in Brink's tutorial to setup Recimage, then ran
reagentc /setosimage /path "location\ResetRecoveryImage" /index 1

I'll try Shift restart again now and see what happens.

Edit: Nope, still doesn't work. I know I'm missing a step or two ...

Ztruker, during the macrium restore setup, are you first deleting the existing (clean installed) C: partition, then paying close attention to the sizing of the partition to restore (using drag and drop) - referring specifically to this part: http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/dis...ion+properties

Macrium did not do it. You did it, there is a difference between RESTORE and COPY. Restore C drive back to the SSD will put C drive where it was when you made a backup of C drive which in turn override the 16MB MSR partition. What you need is to COPY C Drive back to the SSD.

To Copy:

1. Click on 1 to enable 2
2. Click on 2 to delete C
3. Click on 3 (C drive backup), drag and drop to 1->Next->Finish
4. Click on "Fix the Windows boot problems"

topguncp, that was the problem. Many thanks. All is well now as far as partition layout. Copy took a lot longer to complete than restore but it worked great.



Now to do a new full Macrium image backup of the SSD.

How do I set it to that? /setreimage doesn't seem to accept that format:



Edit: If I assign a drive letter I can see the Recovery partition on harddisk0\partition1. So if I assign it as Q then maybe this will work:

Reagentc /setreimage /path Q:\Recovery\WindowsRE

Guess I'll try it and see what happens.
