Cannot upgrade from W7 to W10

Having a nightmare trying to do this. The PC has an SSD with C: and D: on. C: has Windows and programs that don't offer a choice of where to install, D: has my Lightroom Catalogue and programs which offer a choice. C: has 25.4 of 94.6 GN free, D: has 4.57 of 17GB free.

It also has two mirrored HHDs with E: on, which has a Users folder with my normal user, various other folders and SQL Server.

I get 'You're good to go' - my PC meets requirements.

With all the disks connected it goes through the download, through the 'installing' bit and then boots make into Windows 7 with an error 8007001F.

If I disconnect the two HDDs then it doesn't get as far as trying to update - it seems to fall over downloading the update. Do I not have enough disk space for it? Thought I needed 20GB, I have more than that, and if I didn't have enough would I get the 'Good to go' message?

I'm so frustrated and so hoping I don't have to wipe C: and start again.

Hmmm.... The Windows update screen says the W10 update is 2,609 MB. I think I don't have enough free room for it.

I do have 6.9GB in pagefile.sys and 5.2 in hiberfile.sys. If I turn off Hibernation for now I should lose hiberfile.sys which should give me enough spare room.

But before I start hacking around with my system, is there anything else obvious staring me in the face?

(there was a plus to opening the case, I got the USB3 header connected so the USB3 port on the case is working now :) )

I would just download the ISO of the same edition and upgrade from there. That upgrade assistant can be finicky.

    Tech Bench

If Win 7 Pro/Ult then choose Win10 Pro

You will need to open the ISO file with this - Download Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel from Official Microsoft Download Center

... then run setup.exe as usual.

Thanks. I decided to have a go first after turning off Hibernation which upped the free space on c: to just over 30GB and at present the download is coming up to 95% complete, so free space must have been an issue. Should find out pretty soon if it works or if I need to go the route you have pointed out.

It won't upgrade. I've downloaded the .iso, had to use a different utility to mount it as the MS one kept coming up 'blocked', it chunters away and then reboots into W7. The newest log file in C:\Windows is setupact.log which contains the following:

Should add that I had stopped MSE and used right-click -> Run as administrator the last time, even though I was logged into an Administrator user.

Sorry bud, you've got me on that one...
I don't have first-hand experience with that error, maybe try disconnecting everything except mouse and keyboard to eliminate driver issues.... taking a shot in the dark here.

And of course the screen. :) Have a horrid feeling this is heading towards a clean W7 install. There is nothing unusual in the PC - at least I don't think there is:

    W7 Pro x64 SP1 up-to-date
    AMD A10-7800
    8GB dual-channel DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte F2A88XM-D3H mobo with ATI AMD Radeon R7 Graphics
    2 screens
    Samsung 850 EVO 120G SSD
    TSSTcorp CD Rom

There are also two mirrored HDDs but I've been trying to update with them disconnected.

I've burnt a DVD from the download, will try that as well instead of the ISO mounted as a drive.
