Wondering how many folks here installed Windows 10 by Updating directly from an older OS vs Clean Installing.
If you upgraded, how did it go?
    Just curious.
    Should of included 8.1

I also have tried both upgrade from 8.1 and clean install, upgrade worked perfectly and didn't bother to do a clean install

Upgrade from 8.1 to 10 with zero issues. But I expected it because I was/am a member of the insider program from day one.

Poll Upgraded, without issue from Version 1 to 2.0

    Edit

Forgot to mention I also moved those who had voted "upgraded from 8" and then explained that they actually moved from 8.1 to the correct vote, (that is - everyone )

The poll is also private now as some do not vote in public polls

Thanks for all the comments. Very helpful.

I upgraded from Windows 7 on one of my backup/server machines as a test. I fully expected to get my activation code and then restore the Windows 7 image and leave it like that until I had time to do a clean install of 10.

But the upgrade went so well, with nearly everything set up just as it was in 7, that I have also decided to leave it. I also can't see the benefit to doing all the work to clean install now. But it is good to know that this is a common experience, not a lucky shot!

Now I am more motivated to upgrade my main office machines. I have started preparing this one but have run into a somewhat non-related problem, which I will post in the forum soon.

Upgraded main machine using ISO within windows and all went well. Just done a start menu audit and all programs working great except VMWare player which a reinstall fixed. Other machine clean install due to lack of space (20gb drives) from USB stick.

I would imagine most of us would, initially, have upgraded from 7 or 8 to, at least, qualify for the free upgrade.
Since then, for me, it's been so many installs, so many different ways, I've lost count.
I originally did the free upgrade to get digital entitlements for all my PC's. Clean installs after that. I've had some issues from doing upgrades. They didn't reappear when doing a clean install though.
