Just a guy that jumped in.
About #6, yes you can do clean install with your W7 key any time but free upgrade is limited in time until this July. If you install and activate before that on same MB, it will be remembered at MS and you'll be able to do clean install without entering registration even after that date.
Don't worry about it, posts 2 and 3 cover it nicely!
Run the in-place upgrade (I'm sure you keep getting prompted by Microsoft already...) and let it complete. Once completed, connect to the internet and make sure that Windows 10 has activated successfully. From this point on, whenever you choose to re-install Windows, 10, you won't need a product key, as (rightfully pointed out in the 3rd post in this topic) you now have a digital entitlement which Windows 10 should automatically find.
Windows 10 can be downloaded and a USB/DVD created using their Media Creation Tool (again, this has already mentioned, but I'll just recap it) at the following link (there's a link saying "Download Tool Now": Windows 10
EDIT: The link provided in the second post is actually much better than the one I've provided here, worth using that handy tutorial instead, kudos to whoever created that one...
Windows update sucks thats why i had to try the upgrade from an ISO, which is classed as a clean install, wiping all previous product information. Microsofts solution of starting from scratch is blollocks and i had to hack the activation for the 1511 build. Ilegal yes i know but needs must.
There is an option to keep your files and settings during the upgrade, if you don't use that option it's clean install.

I suspect in the latest build that Microsoft have included a tool that actually uses your valid Windows 7/8 product key to activate Windows 10, rather than having to use the in-place upgrade first, but I can't recommend this to people as I'm not 100% sure on it x)
I done that from my win10 pro build(pre 1511) i had to disconnect the WLAN to stop the upgrade BSOD .When finished it was un activated tried my legit win8 key no joy. I performed certain measured to activate it and its now working. I have imaged this install on to the secondary SSD i have and made a repair usb
