Windows 10 attempting to install - but already have it (first post)

    hello everyone.

i had a pop up telling me that i have a Windows update pending and that it would run when i restarted my laptop.

But, when it started, i noticed that it was reinstalling Windows 10 - which i have been running for the last couple of months!

I did a hard shut down and luckily my risk paid off, as it restored my previous system - which of course is Windows 10 (luckily i didn't lose anything).

My problem is, that it's still sitting there waiting to install it, so i can't really turn my laptop off as i'm concerned that it will try yet again to install it.

Any suggestions as to how i can remove the pending installation pls?

here's where i get re: version:

    thanks

    Welcome to TenForums, moveover0.

It's trying to update you to the latest public build of Windows 10, i.e., version 1511 = build 10586. This is normal and expected per Microsoft, part of the new Windows update regime.

Hopefully, this goes off without a hitch for you. I recommend you make a full disk image to an external disk prior to anything else, if you haven't already done so. You may or may not find problems in completing the upgrade and may find settings you may have changed are reset to default settings.

Your Win 10 version is out-dated.
The current version is 10586 which is what your computer was trying to install until you aborted it.
If it is still waiting to be installed, please let it install.

Here is a screenshot of the latest version :

What they said (posts 2 and 3).

One warning, though: It's a fairly major update, almost an OS upgrade. Perhaps equivalent to what MS used to release as a Service Pack. While most people should have no problem with it, there's a small chance that it won't go perfectly. Making a backup of the OS partition before the update would be a good idea.
