M.2 SSD for Asus NX500J laptop

Hi, I have an Asus NX500J laptop that came with a 512GB M.2 SSD and I want to upgrade it to 1TB or 2TB if possible. I just flashed the BIOS to the latest version 2019 which has a few bug fixes.
The current M.2 SSD it has is MZHPU512HCGL-00004, model #MZ-HPU512T/004.
I just purchased an addlink S70 2TB SSD NVMe PCIe 3x4 M.2 2280 and the laptop doesn't recognize it, so when I try to install an OS the SSD is not recognized. So if someone knows a 1TB or 2TB M.2 that I can purchase for this laptop I would truly appreciate it! Thank you!

I think that you have a problem. The NX500 supports PCI-E M.2 SSDs, but the NX500's chipset is an Intel HM87, which does not support NVME. I"m assuming that an NX500, NX500J, and NX500JK are all basically the same.)

I checked by going to crucial.com. They offer no SSD upgrades for the NX500.

Your original SSD is a Samsung XP941, which is not NVME.

An NVME SSD can't be used as a boot drive on a PC that doesn't support NVME.

You may have a hard time finding a 1TB or larger M.2 SSD that isn't NVME.

I think Bob is right. I just checked the spec sheet on the NX500. It's from about 2014, with no indication of NVME support. The current drive is an older Samsung from the same era that appears to be SATA.

Samsung and WD make SATA m2 drives that are 1 TB, but I don't know if they are keyed properly to fit your laptop.

Well this sucks. Thank you for the info, that really answers my question. I guess I just have to keep on working with what I have. I know the laptop is old, but still runs great and meets my needs. So no need to get a new one until this one breaks.

The Newegg link that you provide is to a PCI-E non-NVME SSD.

Crucial.com lists no M.2 SSD upgrades for the NX500JK. They list the M.2 slot only as PCI-E. (Crucial makes both PCI-E and SATA M.2 2280 drives. They appear to not make any non-NVME PCI-E M.2 SSDs.)

The OEM drive is PCI-E. It appears that the NX500 only supports PCI-E, non-NVME.

You are. The NX500 doesn't accept SATA M.2 drives.

A PCIe SSD is not a SATA SSD, since it uses the PCIe interface. The access protocol may be AHCI or NVMe. Some years ago ACHI was used, but now the standard is NVMe. In this case, it appears that the SSD must be PCIe AHCI.
