Does Upgrade from 7 to 10 Create a new Registry or uses old?

I will upgrade to Win 10 during Christmas.
Would like to know if an upgrade from 7 creates a fresh/clean new registry, or does it use the existing win7 one?

Going to say it will create a new one, the entries from existing software will be added. Particular reasons to ask this ?

From my experience, it just uses the old one.

New will be good. The reason is my actual registry still holds so much junk/leftover from old/removed software that I just thought it would be nice to start with a fresh registry.

Pitty. Guess the best option will be a clean fresh install after the upgrade.

When you do an upgrade there will be a combination of the old registry plus the new. This is a complicated process. One of the major reasons for doing an upgrade is to maintain the original registry settings for the system and applications. If the upgrade gave you a fresh/clean registry all of that would be gone. If you have leftovers from uninstalled applications they will remain because Windows does not and cannot know for certain they are unused.

The only way to get a clean/fresh registry is to do a clean install. Registry cleaners can't do that.

With the current TH2 release (10586) you can do a clean install and give it your Windows 7 installation key from the COA sticker on the computer, no need to do an upgrade first.

Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First
