In the middle of the W10 installation MS asks for your email in order to send you a control number. This number you have to insert if you want to complete the installation.
What does the person who has only this one PC and no other access to the their mail do. I hope this is only a requirement for W10TP and not for the RTM
There's an option marked "Can't do this now". It lets you complete the instillation and later you can get the number in your email and update the OS. I do this when I install Win8.1
What ISO are you using ... tech eval?
I've only ever installed the Insider Preview ISOs and I don't recall that question.
I just installed the Nov ISO twice, once by 'accident' on my phys machine, backed off to Win8.1, and then installed the ISO to a Hyper-V machine and VM. So it's not my memory

I installed a couple of the TP versions. But I did not see the "Can't do this now". But then I am half blind and may have missed it. Will watch for it with the January 21 update.
I never gave it much thought because I have several computers in this room - and then my installations are in VMware Player anyhow. But I thought it would be a pain for the person with only 1 system.
The option, as Bunny says, is there, even on the insider download. I would suggest that the account/password check is for your own protection. When it asks if you wish to log in with your live account, it has no means, at that stage, of establishing your identity. There are several ways people with access to your computer, be it friends, family or thieves, could use your identity to complete the installation in your name and have , from that point, full access to anything listed under your live account. The method you have used to check this, ie. The control number, is something that would only be known to you, and is a good, final security check.
I am a MS account user and for me, entering the code is a security chcek that verrifies my "possessing" the computer, which is important, as only then I can set up my computer with previously saved settings (wallpapers etc.). Without the code - and yes, there was "I cannot do it now" option - the computer could be set up as a new computer only.
EDIT: I am not using the e-mail option, but mobile phone SMS - but that's because I have my phone number connected to my MS account.

I never saw this "Feature" !!. Maybe because I always at installation time disconnect the internet just before "Create account" and therefore always use a LOCAL account. I reconnect to the internet afterwards.
I've run several installations both as VM's and on Real HOST machines.
I'm NOT going to use an Ms account -- why should I -- and if in the future it becomes mandatory to have one then I shall either keep running W7 /W8.1 or switch to something else.

Hi JimboIt says, at some stage before that, that it is checking your Internet connection. Probably, in your case, it finds there is not one, and only offers the local account option. I have never gone on that route, so am guessing.

Just disconnect the internet at Set up account - then you are presented with a Local account (the old standard way). As soon as you've created it just re-connect to the internet as before.
Perfect - no email required / no Ms account set up on your computer.
I HATE the built in webmail thing (metro). Outlook 2010 as in Office 2010 is fine by me for email.

Can I assume you have all seen the notice of the Insider Program Terms of Use changing in January? I have tried to check it a couple of times and have not seen the changes to which they refer.
