    Windows 7 update disc key


    If I've understood correctly, I'll need to use the key from my Windows 7 installation disc to perform a clean install of Windows 10 on my PC. My Windows 7 disc is the 'update' version. Will the key from my Windows 7 update disc work when performing a Windows 10 clean install?

    Have you done an upgrade install to Windows 10 on that computer yet? What operating system is on it now?

    Update keys generally are fine. Best backup your current install however.

    I'm dual booting OS X El Capitan and Windows 7 using boot camp on a mid 2012 Macbook Pro. I've tried a Windows 10 upgrade install from the HDD, from a USB and from a DVD ISO: all fail to install.

    You should be OK with the Windows 7 product key, even from an upgrade DVD, but I would suggest capturing the genuineticket.xml file as a backup:
