    Media creation tool

Does anyone know if using the media creation tool to 'install' Windows 10 when Windows 10 is already installed (and keeping all files etc) will fix problems?

I have some issues with Windows (broken and missingpreinstalled apps - yes I've tried the Powershell commands etc) which troubleshooting hasn't seemed to help, have no restore point to fall back to, sfc hasn't helped etc etc.

I used the media creation tool to 'upgrade' my copy of Windows 10 to the current version when the November update hadn't downloaded and it installed and upgraded everything ok. So I'm wondering if doing that now will fix things.

I'm doing this right now as I broke all my apps playing with Powershell.... Usually it works.

Great, please let us know how you get on. Not that I don't believe you guys that it will work - I'd figured it might already - but seeing as you are already a willing guinea pig. ;-)

Worked fine, just had to do redo a couple of regedit tweaks I'd done before and re-associate pdf files with Sumatra not edge. Apps all working :)

Were these tweaks you needed to do because the repair method is fiddly? Or is this just your own tweaks you needed to do because the repair undid them?

It was my own tweaks. Just things like reversing the trackpad direction I'd done before and the repair overwrote with defaults (as it should).

The repair wasn't fiddly at all - just click on setup.exe and choose "Keep all apps and settings"

Good luck. It took me about half an hour (or perhaps 45 minutes). When you have finished (and you are happy with the result) don't forget to run disk cleanup to delete your old Windows OS files.
