My W7 Permissions borked: will upgrading to W10 import the problem?

    Folks,

I've got a homegroup. All on W7. One machine was not sharing with the others. In a fit of WinRage, I selected "C", my OS drive, and forced a "share all" and did the same with my data drive, "D".

Now, I've found that my network printer (an HP8630) is inop with that computer. It works with the rest; I can browse to it from the problem machine; it's just that no item ever prints and I have a "missing driver" message which never goes away, despite uninstalling/reinstalling/running HP Dr.

This problem started from the time I tried to force the sharing. (The good news is that now all the folders I want are being shared.)

At some point during the troubleshooting process, I got a message from Windows that the permissions are messed up.

Can I just upgrade to W10 and have a "fresh" install (albeit, with my data and structure intact)? (And I do mean "upgrade": If I have to do an install from scratch, I may as well do it with W7 for now.)

    Thanks,
    Ken

Remove the share from C and D before upgrading. Also uninstall the printer, you can install it after the upgrade. Download any drivers you may need, as after the upgrade you may not be able to connect to the internet until you update the network drivers. Disable your antivirus completely (not until next restart) or uninstall it. Then do the upgrade and try to share the specific folders you want. If your network is configured to home and you are in the same workgroup as the other computers, you should not have problem detecting and reinstalling the printer.
