    Installation of my nieces computer

Hi I have been installing windows 10 on my nieces computer for her Christmas. It's added my devices on my network I can't see an option to delete them off her computer as she is only 8 and I am scared she can delete my devices Etc. from her computer when she gets it at Christmas. Can she do that? And is there a way to delete my devices of her computer. It's just added them automatically. And one last question is Windows 10 free upgrade only available for 1 year to the user. I have been told yes it is and no it's available for life, who is correct? Thank you in advance.

Your network devices can only be seen when the computer is connected to your network. I assume that your niece is not living with you? If so, when she gets the PC and connects it to her home network, she no longer has access to your network and its devices.

The Windows 10 free upgrade is available for one year from the date of Windows 10 release, until the end of July 2016. All devices updated for free before that will then remain valid and activated for the lifetime of the device. You can upgrade now and if you are still using that computer in 2020, five years from now, it will be legal, valid and activated.

Well that's going to cost me as I have activated Office on it. I will need to buy Office again. I wish curry's told me that I wouldn't have upgraded and wiped my own system to put 7 Professional on it. What a bummer!

If you have a valid Office license, you are free to reinstall Windows on PC totally wiping the old underlying Windows, then reinstall Office and activate it again.

Yes. Your niece will be able to use Windows 10 as long as the machine "stays alive", is working.

Once you have upgraded to Windows 10, you can even reinstall it clean meaning if something happens, you just reinstall using Windows 10 install media and Windows will be automatically activated. Once the free upgrade has been done and Windows 10 activated for the first time, the computer "signature" is stored on Microsoft servers and you are entitled to reinstall on that same machine as many times as you want to or need to.

Microsoft calls this new activation feature Digital Entitlement. Here's a screenshot from my PC, I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro only a few days ago completely wiping the old system, formatting all hard drives and when I was asked for the product key, I selected the I don't have a product key option, installing completely without a product key. When ready, my Windows 10 was automatically activated, digitally entitled for activation because I had earlier used the free upgrade on this machine and the computer signature was saved by Microsoft.

This is what I want to do. I have a genuine Windows 7 professional key. I installed it on my old computer and it broke down. It was on it's last legs, I had bought 2 new hard drives for it. Then the display went. So I decided to go for a new computer.

If I could activate it and get Windows 10 pro would it be legit? As I would like to see the difference between Home and pro in Windows. Is there a massive difference? Is it a lot better than windows than 10 Home? And is it worth chancing it?

If your Windows 7 Professional key is a so called Retail key, you can use it on any computer. You can install Windows 7 on a new PC, activate it and finally upgrade to Windows 10.

However, if the Windows 7 key is an OEM key belonging to a pre-installed Windows 7 on another PC, that key is only valid for reinstalls on the PC it came with.

Yes I bought the key off Microsoft partner.
Have you ever had to rebuild icon cache on pro. I have to do it almost daily. So my Office won't get treated as another activation?

I guess the last time I have rebuild the icon cache must be some 5+ years ago in Windows 7.

What kind of Office license you have? Which version? A boxed Office 2010 with install DVD and key, An Office 2013 bought as digital (download) copy from Microsoft oneline, an Office 365 subscription with Office 2016 or what?
