Here is all the information. It was for Windows 8 but it is exactly the same for 10. And here is a little demo I made running Windows 8 in VMware Player. It shows you what the possibilities are.

It says setting up personalized settings for C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\RUNDLL32.EXE
    AND C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\mscories.dll.install

It has taken an hour so far!

Is this a to VM or normal install?

If Clean Install Windows 10 Technical Preview how did you prepare the drive? Try wiping it with Diskpart Clean Command first.

If problems persist try new ISO and create new media, then if necessary try alternate media, e.g. flash stick install or DVD install.

FWIW.. I just re-did my Win10TP 9860 dual boot install and the entire process from beginning to end took about 20 minutes at most.
