    How do I change Windows10 from 32-bit to 64-bit?

Hi Im new to tenforums and to 64bit setups but not new to building windows-32 systems. Built a system and here is what I am stumped with. Never owned a 64bit version of windows until I downloaded it from amazon just a week ago. But in order to download it I initially setup my system using the only other OS I own which is vista32bit from which I was able to do a win10-32 install no problem (which is how I am posting this now.). At the beginning of my attempt to do a fresh install of the 64bit version message says OS missing replace disks with OS disks or something like that. I do remember reading somewhere bios settings are very particular and have to be set but i cant find that again. I can give more details in next reply. Any help on this would be very appreciated.

All that I can think of is that you tried to run the X64 installer from within Win 10 X86 (32 bit).

To install the 64 bit OS, you'll need to run a clean install from bootable media (usually a DVD or USB flash drive). You aren't allowed to run the 64 bit installer from within a 32 bit OS.

I didn't think that Microsoft allows Win 10 to be installed as an upgrade over Vista. I don't know what would happen if you ran the installer from within Vista. Is that what you did?

I was going to caution that MS doesn't allow a free upgrade from Vista to 10. From your reference to Amazon, I suppose that you purchased 10.

Judging from the Win 10 X64 drivers available for your motherboard from MSI, you should have no worries about compatibility.

    installing windows 10 64bit over 32bit difficulties

Attached is a snip of my system info to prove it is x64 capable. I made a few
attempts to do this but this is what i did when i got the os missing message. First a little background :
Never owned 64bit OS until win10. But to order a download from Amazon I initially setup my system
using the only other os I own which is vista 32bit. Next I successfully installed the 32bit version of win10 no problem. Then I created Win10-64-bit bootable usb on a 16gb usb 3.0 sandisk flash drive using diskpart command but when I try to install it from bios boot on a freshly formatted ssd drive it says
"missing OS ". I think I just may have stumbled on something : everything i did was on
my 32bit installation of win10, the creating of the usb drive and formatting of
the ssd drive. Could this be the problem? How do I change Windows10 from 32-bit to 64-bit?-x64-based-cpu-running-32bit-win10.jpg

Sounds to me like the USB stick is not bootable. I would use Rufus to create it since you already have the ISO downloaded. Make sure to format the USB stick with FAT32 for maximum compatibility.
