how to install 10 upgrade directly from 8

Trying to upgrade Lenovo AIO from Windows 8 to Windows 10.
Could only get 8 to 8.1
Started that update which hung at 82%
    Now reverted back to 8
    Error 0xC1900101
Have done a lot of upgrades but never from 8 to 10.

    Media Creation Tool:
    Windows 10

Someone is more than likely going to post that you have to upgrade to 8.1 first, but that isn't true. You don't have to be on SP1 for Windows 7 either.

    Thanks, NavyLCDR,
I may have been over complicating things.
I uninstalled the AV, cleaned out the /Software Distribution/Downloads folder, deleting a bunch of 3rd party bloatware and went to the Downloads site. Downloaded the Tool and everything seems to be running smoothly.
Up to 22% on the big circle so I don't anticipate any more problems.
    Thanks again,
    Pete

    Hello Pete, :)

If you like, you can use the method in the tutorial below to directly clean install to the free Windows 10 from your activated Windows 8.

That is correct BUT to get the Free Win10 Upgrade those 2 versions of Windows are mentioned as being required. I've tried both Win7 without SP1 and Win8.0, both failed until being updated to meet the requirements and tried again.

only if you are attempting to use native, built in Windows update to upgrade to Windows 10. The Media Creation Tool works just fine with Windows 7 no SP1, and Windows 8.0.

Hopefully cfourkays will come back and report his success with Windows 8.0.

    Worked perfectly

No problems whatsoever. I think the problems in my earlier attempts would have stopped an 8.1 to 10. The usual 62 or 82% hangup.
After I did the cleanup I mentioned I mentioned in the above post, this thing whistled right through. 8>>>>10
