Stuck on - Getting a few things ready

    Hello,
I am hoping I have come to the right place because I have been browsing through your forms and it looks like good feed back! I am having an issue with creating an ISO for windows 10. I have windows 10 already on this laptop; however when I was doing a reset on my other Laptop (had windows 10 already installed) I got the : inaccessible boot device everyone is seeming to enjoy.. ... read how to fix and started to go through using the MediaCreationToolx64. It starts up and gets stuck on "Getting a few things ready"... The program is not using any CPU or Disk and has a memory usage of 59.2MB and it just sits there... I let it run for several hours and got no results.. I have been searching for a solution but have found no one else with my issue.. everyone else seems to not be able to get it to start or gets an error message. I get neither of these issues.. Any suggestions?

    Hey,

I had the same problem on my computer. I was trying to download Windows 10 to a USB for a new computer. It was my anti-virus/ firewall software (Norton) that was holding up the process. I temporarily disabled the firewall and the safe-download feature. This allowed the Windows 10 to download to the UBS.

    Hope that helps.

Figured I would chime in here too in case anyone else has this issue. Disabling anti-virus did not work for me. What I did was use an optimization utility to delete all my junk files and bad registry entries. I used http://download.cnet.com/Wise-Care-3...-75744630.html and basically stepped through all the different utilities and tools it offers in the free version. Restarted the computer, disabled anti-virus for good measure, and it flew right by the "Getting a Few Things Ready" step.

I've noticed a lot of issues are related to files generated by windows, or by the utility. I think the cleanup utility probably just wiped out whatever junk file was clogging up the process.

Yes, Windows setup examines all the applications and files and of course registry when you upgrade. Any unresolved issue can get it stuck. So the upgrade should be done on a healthy system. If your Windows installation is too untidy, you better backup all data and do a clean install. This will make the computer faster.
