Thank you both for your help.
Speed is not top of my list, being retired means I can take things a 'little' more casually. My priorities are reliability and reliability. My usage is mostly data, Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Money and some very basic website work with WordPress and Elementor. A few games, like Half Life when I do have some spare time and the wife is nowhere to be seen.

As regards my MoBo I was going to replace it, along with the processor and memory in order to keep W11 happy but am thinking the work-around maybe an option as this will keep the costs down. I don't want to spend lots if it's not necessary but don't mind if it makes my life easier

I would hope that MR can clone my C drive to a new SSD disk that is then 'bootable' but looks like I could be wrong - again. There must be a way to do that.

    Decisions, decisions.....
Even if I started from scratch, case, MoBo, Processor etc, I would still need to clone my C drive to it.

    Cloning is the easy part.

One way to 'guarantee' it's bootable is to
    a. Clean install Win 10 to the new disk.
    b. Image C: on the old disk.
    c. Restore that C: to the new disk.

Assuming there are no driver issues, all should be well.

As you're using the same PC in both cases, whether the installation is MBR or UEFI is irrelevant, unless you have an MBR installation and wish to move to a UEFI one.

I think I should say Image instead of Clone?

Option B seems to do what I need. I need to image everything on my current C drive to a new SSD. including settings, links etc.
I have read that this needs to be done without internet access or interference by internet connection. Both drives would be in the computer and it would then be possible to transfer the Image which would then be boot-able?

Strictly Clone is an exact and precise copy.

However in PC terms, it is also used when partitions are resized.

There are dedicated cloning programs - which create a copy of one disk on another; there are imaging programs, which create a compressed copy of the used parts of selected partitions in a file; there are imaging programs which can also clone.

Then there's also a 'forensic image' - which is a bit by bit copy, but that just confuses things so we won't mention it...

Why not? It made me smile

Looks like I will need to do some more reading and get myself a stiff drink!!

It's rarely used- it means the copy is made without regard to disk errors, and is intended, for example, to make a copy of a damaged but accessible partition for the purposes of attempting data recovery.

I have MR on a regular OS backup system, full, differential and incremental. I have never tested that it all works though. I should boot using MR to make sure it does do what it is supposed to do.

Other issues: what type of SSD? SATA? NVMe? Which is compatible with your PC? Sorry I did not know there were different types of SSD, I assumed that a 2.5" SSD would work in a PC or Laptop.

The one I was thinking of is this one:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-BX5...rs&sr=1-5&th=1

Reviews seem to confirm it is for a PC. My MB has:
2 Marvell Serial ATA 6.0 (7pin Navy blue) that connects to two optical drives.
2 Intel P67 Serial ATA 6.0 (7pin Grey) these are connected to the HDD and dead ? SSD)
2 As above Serial ATA3.0 (Blue) I don't know/remember what these are connected to.
Your ASUS P8P67 PRO REV 3.1 doesn't have a M.2 slot for NVMe.
You can add a PCIe board with a M.2 slot for NVMe but you will need to do some workaround to boot from it as BIOS won't see the drive as boot able.
I suggest you buy a 2.5" SATA SSD and install in one of the Serial ATA 6.0 (7pin Grey).
The Crucial BX500 is very good. I have it in my laptop. A better one is the MX500

I have Macrium Reflect (full version) and never had any issues.
To make it safer (Under Windows, antivirus etc can interfere), I suggest you boot from the MR rescue drive and do the clone offline.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am about to order the MX500 from Amazon UK. It should arrive tomorrow. I can then, I hope, progress further with a SSD my system will be able to see!

I have been looking at some YT videos relating to Cloning my HDD to SSD. When this has hopefully completed I will have the original HDD as C and the clone shown as A new drive letter.
Do I need to manually change the SSD drive letter to C and the HDD to another letter or will this be done within MR?
Does it matter I am cloning from a 1TB to a 1TB drive? So I wont need to worry about extending or shrinking ?
My C drive has two partitions, C as 667.79 of 930.78 and an X Recovery partition of 18.1 mb of 749.0 mb.
Can I assume MR will clone both partitions ?

    Only 2? That's unusual.
Post a screenshot of your partitions using Minitool Partition Wizard. Thanks.

And confirm you are using a legacy MBR configuration.
